People to People Student Ambassador Programs offer students in grades five through 12 educational travel opportunities that foster friendship, build the foundation for personal successes, and offer unique access to people, places, and activities. The People to People program was launched in 1956 by President Dwight D. John McDonough John McDonough, an eighth grader from Eisenhower School in Wyckoff recently participated in the Juvenile Arthritis Walk in Loantaka Park in Morristown. Organizing this charity event was part of a People to People ambassador service project in which McDonough is participating. He was one of 41 seventh and eighth graders from five New Jersey counties who were involved in the Arthritis Foundation’s nationwide walk to raise funds in the fight against arthritis -- one of the nation’s leading causes of disability. Proceeds from the walk will support the Arthritis Foundation’s mission to improve lives through leadership in prevention, control, and cure of arthritis and related disorders. McDonough was recommended and accepted to participate as a student leader in a three-week People to People trip that will begin on July 21. He and his peers will explore England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. He will share his experience with peers, family, and friends when he returns. As an ambassador, McDonough can earn high school and college credit because of the many educational elements in the program.
