Trisha Bassi of Franklin Lakes died May 13. She was 18. She had attended local schools in Franklin Lakes, and was a senior at Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. She had participated in many sports including Ramapo Wildcat soccer. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey. She is survived by her parents Walter and Eileen Bassi (nee Weaver) of Franklin Lakes, her sisters Noelle Bassi Smith of Dallas, Texas, Sandra Bassi Drewes of Ringwood, and Erica Bassi of Dallas, Texas. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Robert “Bob” Carino of Midland Park, formerly of Oakland, died May 30. He was 80. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Before retiring in 1989, he was a teacher for the Oakland Board of Education since 1956. He is survived by his children Cathy Pescatore of Midland Park, Robert Carino of Montclair, Barbara Carino of Ridgewood, Michael Carino of Caldwell, Margaret Carino-Ganias of New York City, New York, and Paula Carino of Brooklyn, New York, and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Helene. Arrangements were made by the Olthuis Funeral Home in Midland Park. Memorial donations may be made to James A. McFaul Wildlife Center, 150 Crescent Avenue, Wyckoff, NJ 07481. Janet Earhart Harkins of Wyckoff died June 1. She was 96. She was a teacher and teacher-librarian in the public school systems of Paxtang-Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Franklin Lakes. She remained active into her nineties teaching church school for 77 years and as a tutor for Project Literacy U.S. Bergen County. She was a member and past president of the American Association of University Women-Northwest Bergen Branch, and a member of The Daughters of The American Revolution. She is survived by her sons John Harkins, and Paul F. Harkins, and one grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband The Rev. Dr. George F. Harkins. A memorial service will be planned at a future date at Advent Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wyckoff. Arrangements were made by Hetrick-Bitner Funeral Home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Markstein, nee Pouch, of Waldwick died May 29. She was 79. Bert Nelson of Ridgewood, formerly of Ringwood, West Milford, and Barefoot Bay, Florida, died June 2. He was 85. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. Before retiring, he was an auditor with Hartford Insurance in Randolph. He was a former member of Saint Catherine of Bologna R.C. Church in Ringwood. He is survived by his children Jacque Weiss, Pennie DeVore, and Candy Krulan, four grandchildren, and his sister Arlene Lehnert. He was predeceased by his wife Joan T. (nee Dannic). O’Connor, nee Roti, of Ridgewood died April 2. She was 92. Before retiring in 1990, she had been the school nurse at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Ridgewood for 25 years. She had been the supervisor of pediatrics at Christ Hospital in Jersey City from 1938 to 1948. She had been an active member at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Ridgewood for over 50 years. She is survived by her children Robert of New York, Francis (Hank) of Ridgewood, Deborah Dunphy of Duxbury, Massachusetts, Raymond of River Vale, and Stephen of Driggs, Idaho, and five grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. O’Connor, and her sister Katherine (Kay) Roti. A memorial visitation will be held at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood on Friday, June 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 12 at 10:45 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Ridgewood. He was a member of the Grace Bible Church in North Haledon, serving as deacon, trustee, Sunday school superintendent, and adult Sunday school teacher. He had served on the board of Child Evangelism Fellowship of New Jersey, Inc. North Chapter for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann (nee Rodreick) of Glen Rock, his children Deborah Smith Castano of Midland Park and David Smith of Dallas, Texas, three grandchildren, and his sisters Dorothy Hagedorn of Midland Park and Ruth Junta of Mahwah.
