McMahon In response to comments made at public council meetings and in letters written to a local newspaper in which certain borough employees were criticized by name, Franklin Lakes Councilman Frank Bivona voiced his full support of those employees. Bivona added that the disparaging comments are damaging to the employees’ morale. “I believe we live in a special town made up of many great individuals and families who feel passionate about doing what is best for Franklin Lakes,” Bivona stated. “But that passion sometimes drives people to write e-mails, letters to editors, and speak at public meetings in a critical way about our governing body and our borough employees.” Critical comments have been made during the public portion of several recent council meetings by members of the public who are also involved in volunteer services in the community in regard to the proposed 2010 budget, and the recent appointment of the DPW superintendent and director of the recreation and parks committee by the council over the objections of Mayor Maura DeNicola. Laurie Burnette is a first lieutenant in the borough’s ambulance volunteer corps and her husband is the borough’s construction official. She told the council there was a lot of overspending in the budget and a lot of waste. “As a taxpayer, Realtor, and volunteer in the ambulance corps, I see the foreclosure rate and the unemployment rate going up, but I don’t see many changes,” Burnette said. “There is so much waste. Do we need all these people in these departments?
