Charles Lieberman also spoke in favor of the Green Acres application, but seemed to be suggesting that funding might also be pursued for the repair of the dam at the Beekmere property, a residential neighborhood centered on a lake. Mayor Boonstra said the resident was comparing apples and oranges. Boonstra noted that the state funding was only available for projects accessible to the general public, and the neighbors who would like to have the Beekmere dam repaired had already indicated that they did not want that lake to be accessible to people other than local property owners. “There really isn’t a need of the town acquiring that lake,” Mayor Boonstra told Lieberman. “We’re working on repairing the dam and preserving the lake.” The mayor said Wyckoff officials were trying to schedule a meeting with the Beekmere neighbors at which both sides could be represented and solutions pursued, but that the Green Acres application is not part of that plan. Maple Lake, once a swimming and picnic area, had gone out of business during an economic boom in the 1960s when people began to construct their own private swimming pools or join other swimming clubs. The land was sold to a developer in 1973. The developer drained the lake in the early 1990s. Zoned and re-zoned, the site includes wetlands, and Wyckoff has indicated to state officials that the tract is no longer needed for Wyckoff’s affordable housing commitment. 100% US Mail Partial US Mail Partial US Mail Partial US Mail Partial US Mail *from US Postal Service Statement of Ownership & Circulation, October 1, 2009 Receive the most coverage for your advertising dollar. 100% by US Mail VFW District Two (continued from page 6) Posts in Bergen County and its more than 5,700 members, is the official Veterans of Foreign Wars organization for Bergen County, New Jersey since its chartering by the National VFW in June 1946.
