The Wyckoff Planning Board had its first official look at the revised plans for a 62,100 square-foot Inserra Supermarkets ShopRite, which would be constructed on the 7.50 acre site of the former A&P and Walgreen’s. The 70,000 square-foot building has stood vacant for many years. The plans were revised after they were presented to the Design Review Committee, whose members said they would prefer a building exterior that harmonized better with Wyckoff’s traditional-style architecture. The application was also fine-tuned after reviews by the Wyckoff Shade Tree Commission and the police chief. The site will include 193 new shade trees and 939 shrubs, and the green space has been designed at 21.6 percent, slightly more than the 20 percent required by local zoning ordinances. The Design Review Committee unanimously approved the new Inserra plan when they forwarded it to the Wyckoff Planning Board. Hearings on this application will continue, and members of the general public are welcome to attend. In the spring, Inserra Supermarkets President Larry Inserra and attorney James Jaworski presented the plans to the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce. At that time, Jaworski said discussions with Police Chief Benjamin Fox resulted in changes to access and circulation, and that traffic patterns at nearby Saint Elizabeth Church were being closely monitored to assure there would be no conflict in the future. He said Inserra had committed to allow church parking in the new lot on Sundays and to continue the Cruise Nights of vintage cars held there weekly. Jaworski said delivery traffic would come on site off Wyckoff Avenue, proceed to the back of the building, and then exit right on Greenwood and proceed to Godwin Avenue. The attorney said his team would also be meeting with the county to discuss traffic on Wyckoff Avenue, (continued on page 17)

Over 4,000 Wyckoff residents and friends descended upon the Wyckoff Family Y’s campus for the first-ever Wyckoff Day celebration. Event organizers were so pleased with the community’s positive response that they have already set June 11, 2011 as the next Wyckoff Day. All proceeds from Wyckoff Day benefitted the programs and outreach of the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The Y’s new endowment fund gained a $15,000 deposit thanks to Wyckoff Day, and will enable the Y to continue to provide: scholarships and financial assistance for children and families in need, assistance and programming for specially challenged children and young adults, special programs for seniors, summer camp for children from Paterson’s Oasis, positive intervention and help for families in emergency

situations, and culture through the Y Arts Theatre Co., Night at the Opera, author appearances, dance studio, etc. The success of the day was thanks to an ambitious committee, members of which volunteered hundreds of manhours; generous sponsors including Platinum Sponsors: Inserra Supermarkets, Borst Landscape & Design, and Stop & Shop; the collaboration of local organizations, houses of worship, businesses, the Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce, and the dedication of the YMCA to host an event which brought neighbors together in celebration of our community. The volunteers and planners of the event shared the Y’s vision and worked diligently to promote healthy relationships, partnerships, and outreach among individuals, local businesses and organizations.
