Tips for coping with heat emergency The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management has the following suggests for coping with the extreme summer heat. Residents are encouraged to drink a lot of cool water and avoid alcohol, seek cool places such as the library between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, or visit a mall. Residents are asked to check on neighbors, especially the elderly. The county has four cooling centers open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including the Northwest Bergen Multipurpose Senior Activity Center at 46-50 Center Street in Midland Park and the County Administration Building Cafeteria, located on the first floor of One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack. School board sets meeting The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, July 20 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland School. Soccer coaches gather Coaches for the Midland Park Travel Soccer program will meet on Monday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Midland Park Library. The meeting will cover the new requirements for the program. Library trustees announce session The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the library, 250 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park. Meetings are open to the public. Summer camp openings Midland Park’s Summer Camp program is fully booked for weeks two through six. The program is still accepting requests for the wait list. Anyone interested in being placed on the waiting list may call the (201) 652- 2747 or send an e-mail to mprec@optonline.net. Recreation department seeks donations The Midland Park Recreation Department is seeking donations of a ping pong table and various art supplies for its summer programs. Supplies needed for the summer art projects are: paper towel and toilet paper rolls, and egg cartons. Items may be dropped off at the recreation center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and any evening except Sundays between 6 and 9 p.m. Summer library programs begin Registration for the Midland Park Memorial Library’s summer reading program takes place in the children’s room. Children can join “Set Sail for Your Library!” and explore different ports of call as they read their way around the children’s room. Children may also attend Monday at the Movies at 2 p.m. Toddler Story Time will be held on Tuesdays at 2 p.m., and Preschool Story Time will be at 2 p.m. on Thursdays. Alliance provides summer hours The Midland Park Municipal Alliance Committee, in cooperation with the Midland Park Board of Education, will provide summer prevention hours. Craig Rush, student assistance counselor for Midland Park Public Schools, will be available to meet with Midland Park students in kindergarten through grade 12 on the following dates: July 21, and 28; and Aug. 4, 11 and 18. Rush will be available from noon to 4 p.m. at Midland Park High School. Armchair Traveler program to begin Journey to exotic locations at the Midland Park Library through the Armchair Traveler program. Vacation Bible School set The Midland Park Christian Reformed Church at 183 Godwin Avenue will host its Vacation Bible School “High Seas Expedition” Aug. 2 through 6 from 9:20 a.m. to noon. Community Center open to residents Midland Park residents are reminded that the DePhillips Community Center is open year-round for recreational activities Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday through Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Activities include pickup basketball, volleyball, ping pong, air hockey, and board games are available for use. The new outdoor basketball courts are now open.
