Genealogy class offered to children Children in grades four through six are invited to explore their family histories at a genealogy class to be held at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 2:30 p.m. Children will receive an introduction to genealogy by the local history librarian. Registration is required. Franklin Lakes residents may begin to register on Thursday, July 22; non-residents may register on July 29. All registrations may be made by calling (201) 891-2224 or by visiting the library on DeKorte Drive during regular hours. Beading and jewelry workshop set The Franklin Lakes Public Library will hold a beading and jewelry workshop for children in grades three through six. Participants will create original “Pirate Jewelry” with local artist Jacque Benevento on Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. Franklin Lakes residents may begin to register on July 22; non-residents may register on July 30. Girl Scouts hold membership drive The Franklin Lakes Girl Scouts are now accepting registrations for 2010-11. Girls are invited to sign up as members of a Girl Scout troop, or as individual Girl Scouts. Along with troop activities, Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey offers many programs for girls of all ages. From visiting a local business to international travel, Girls Scouts has something to offer every girl. Financial assistance is available. Membership is open to all girls ages five through 17. Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey serves more than 34,000 girls in communities across Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex, and northern Warren counties. Heavenly Treasures Sale set The Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes will be holding its 22nd Heavenly Treasures Sale through July 24. This gigantic sale will offer thousands of bargains. New items arrive daily. Sale hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. People, Places, Things, a collection of work by freelance illustrator Mike Rossi, will be exhibited at the Franklin Lakes Public Library during the month of July. The exhibit will feature an assortment of oil portraits and illustrations. Rossi received a B.F.A. from Ringling College in Sarasota, Florida. He works with clients creating posters, designs, logos, murals and portraits. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, July 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the library on DeKort Drive.
