Tips for coping with heat emergency The Midland Park Office of Emergency Management has the following suggests for coping with the extreme summer heat. Residents are encouraged to drink a lot of cool water and avoid alcohol, seek cool places such as the library between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, and between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, or visit a mall. Residents are asked to check on neighbors, especially the elderly. The county has four cooling centers open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., including the Northwest Bergen Multipurpose Senior Activity Center at 4650 Center Street in Midland Park and the County Administration Building Cafeteria, located on the first floor of One Bergen County Plaza in Hackensack. Board of education to meet The Midland Park Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, July 20 at 8 p.m. The session will be held in the August C. DePreker Media Center at Highland Elementary School. Summer camp openings Midland Park’s Summer Camp program is fully booked for weeks two through six. The program is still accepting requests for the wait list. The Midland Park Recreation Department is seeking donations of a ping pong table and various art supplies for its summer programs. Supplies needed for the summer art projects are: paper towel and toilet paper rolls, and egg cartons. Items may be dropped off at the recreation center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and any evening except Sundays between 6 and 9 p.m. Soccer coaches to meet Coaches for the Midland Park Travel Soccer program will meet on Monday, July 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the Midland Park Library. The meeting will cover the new requirements for the program. ‘Wednesday Workshops’ set The Midland Park Memorial Library will offer its “Wednesday Workshops” On July 14 at 3 p.m., there will be Family Craft activities for all ages. Seats open on recreation board The Midland Park Board of Recreation is seeking volunteers to fill two vacant seats. The term will extend from Aug. 1, 2010 to Dec. 31, 2011. Alliance provides summer hours The Midland Park Municipal Alliance
Committee, in cooperation with the Midland Park Board of Education, will provide summer prevention hours. Craig Rush, student assistance counselor for Midland Park Public Schools, will be available to meet with Midland Park students in kindergarten through grade 12 on the following dates: July 14, 21, and 28; and Aug. 4, 1,1 and 18. Rush will be available from noon to 4 p.m. at Midland Park High School.
