Midland Park January 27, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 3 The Midland Park Mayor and Council has asked the borough’s planner to consider municipally-owned property in determining the location of a new telecommunications monopole. The governing body at its last meeting instructed borough Administrator Michelle Dugan to send a letter to Joseph Burgis, the town’s planner, indicating that borough property should be considered as part of his recommendation and review of the cell company applications. The board of adjustment was also copied on the letter. “As you consider the location of a jointly proposed facility for T-Mobile and Verizon, borough property should be the first option as opposed to either of the two original locations, 44 Godwin and 80 Godwin. “The Borough feels, given the many facility designs available for construction of cell towers, there is opportunity to find an aesthetically pleasing model for municipal Council seeks cell tower on town property property. The municipal sites to be considered are: 280 Godwin Avenue and 50 Dairy Street,” Dugan said in her letter to Burgis.. “We became aware that the board of adjustment was addressing two applications for cell towers, and we prefer that town property be used first,” explained Borough Council President Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan. “If it goes on borough property, the taxpayers would benefit from the revenue versus a private enterprise getting the revenue,” he added. According to Dugan, the borough received $119,000 in 2009 from the leases with Verizon, Sprint and ATT, all of which share the cell tower at the DPW garage on Greenwood Avenue. T-Mobile bid nearly $40,000 a number of years ago to become the fourth co-locator, but it never signed a lease. When a cell tower for four co-locators was proposed on Midland Park High School property MPHS Athletic Booster Association has scheduled its Winter Sports “Pack the House” nights. The first event will be Wednesday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. when Boys’ Varsity Wrestling Team takes on Manchester. The next opportunities will be Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m. for the Boys’ Varsity Basketball vs. Eastern Christian game, and Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. for the Girls’ Varsity Bas- Boosters plan ‘Pack the House’ nights five years ago, Omnipoint bid $31,189 and Cingular bid $30,000. The school board rescinded the bid awards and withdrew its owner’s consent for the tower. At present T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless are joining forces with an application in front of the board of adjustment to share a pole either at the Sears parking lot at 80 Godwin Ave. or at the medical building property at 44 Godwin Ave. At the board’s January meeting the two companies were directed to meet with Burgis to hammer out their separate applications and come to the board with one application on whichever site Burgis recommends is best suited for the 90-110-ft. pole antenna. They were also told that they could still submit individual applications if they did not want to pursue Burgis’ recommendations. The application is now scheduled for the board’s Feb. 10 meeting. The applicants need a use variance because telecommunications antennas are only a permitted use on municipally-owned property, according to borough ordinances. ketball vs. Immaculate Conception game.
