Membership campaign underway Temple Beth Rishon in Wyckoff has launched its “Half off Dues” membership campaign. This independent, egalitarian congregation is committed to blending the best of traditional and contemporary Judaism into worship and community life. Temple Beth Rishon is dedicated to reaching out to individuals and families with diverse Jewish backgrounds who have an interest in joining a synagogue, including those who are unaffiliated or are interfaith. Jimmy & The Templetones perform Jimmy and The Templetones will return to Temple Beth Rishon on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of music celebrating the ‘60s and ‘70s. The group includes Jane Koch, keyboard, flute, and vocals; Gale Bindelglass, vocals and movement; Irwin Tessler, rhythm guitar and vocals; Larry Lipman, bass and vocals; Jimmy Cohen, drums and vocals; and Ilan Mamber, lead guitar and vocals. Pizza, salad and desserts will be served. Bring a beverage. The event is free for temple members with advance reservations. The cost for non-members is $10 per adult and $5 per teen. celebrate the Year of the Tiger by making a tiger wooden spoon craft on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 3:30 p.m. at the Wyckoff Library, 200 Woodland Avenue. Newcomers and Neighbors host tournament, Pizza Night The Wyckoff Newcomers & Neighbors are hosting the Second Annual Paddle Tournament & Pizza Night on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Brookside Racquet Club in Allendale. Racquets, balls, and pizza will be provided. Members and those interested in joining are welcome to attend. No previous paddle experience is needed. Retirement planning program slated The Friends of the Wyckoff Public Library will offer a program on retirement and estate planning on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. “Should a Roth IRA Be Part of Your Future?” will focus on opportunities available for 2010 Roth Conversions. Robert Rossi of UBS Financial will be the presenter. The Wyckoff Public Library is located at 200 Woodland Avenue. Church of Saint Elizabeth hosts bereavement support group The Church of Saint Elizabeth, 700 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, will hold a support group for individuals who have experienced a loss at least three months ago. The program will begin Feb. 2 and continue for eight consecutive Tuesdays. The group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Amadeus Room on the second floor of
the Parish Center. Open to men and women of all faiths, the group will provide a safe, confidential atmosphere to meet and spend time with others who have also experienced a loss. Youth group seeks donations The Temple Beth Rishon Youth Group is collecting warm winter clothing and toys to benefit local children’s charities. The group is filling up The Winter Warm Tree with new items such as gloves, mittens, socks, hats, and scarves. All items will be donated to the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation. The Youth Group is also collecting new board games, small arts and crafts projects, coloring books, markers, crayons, Mad Libs books, playing cards, art supplies, and toys for the Tomorrows Children’s Fund at Hackensack University Medical Center. Audition for ‘The Wizard of Oz’ The Wyckoff YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. will hold auditions for “The Wizard of Oz” on Jan. 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Callbacks will be held Jan. 31 beginning at
11 a.m. The production will be staged May 13 through 16 at the Carl Pfeifer Performing Arts Center at the Wyckoff Y. Rehearsals begin first week of February, and will be held on evening and weekends. Those who audition should prepare a short song to be sung with a pianist. Bring sheet music, and headshot resume. An accompanist will be provided. Individuals who audition should also be prepared to learn a short dance combination. This is a non-union production; performers will not be paid. Computer courses available Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is offering a two-day computer course that is open to the community. “Introduction to Word” is being offered from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Feb. 4 (Part I), and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Feb. 5 (Part II), at the CHCC campus at 301 Sicomac Avenue. Follow signs for Building 1, second floor Computer Lab. Class size is limited; participants must pre-register. The course fee is $25 and includes hands-on training and training materials.
