Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • January 20, 2010 Wyckoff ShopRite application scheduled for 2010 hearings by John Koster Hearings on the Inserra Supermarkets site plan application for a proposed ShopRite supermarket at the site of the former A&P may begin Feb. 10 before the Wyckoff Planning Board, if the applicant has finished making style revisions by that date. The Wyckoff Design Review Committee met last week for an initial look at the proposal and sent the plan back to the developer for redrafting. Members of the review group said they would prefer that the new building have a more Colonial appearance. The building as shown in the plans reviewed last week had a Roman Provincial appearance with square towers. Some observers were concerned that the proposed architecture gave the building the appearance of a “big box” store, and were seeking a more aesthetically pleasing design. Project Architect Thomas Ashbahian and Attorney James Jaworski were on hand at last week’s meeting. According to their presentation, plans call for the old A&P building and the strip mall to be razed. The new, one-story supermarket would be constructed in the same location as the existing structure, but turned to face Greenwood Avenue. The 62,000+ square foot building would be slightly smaller than the existing building. Parking would be provided on the west side of the building. Truck traffic would enter from Wyckoff Avenue and exit on Greenwood Avenue. The A&P supermarket has been closed for approximately seven years, leaving the parking lot nearly vacant most of the time. The businesses diagonally across from the abandoned A&P have continued to operate.
