Register for spring sports The Wyckoff Recreation Department will hold spring registration on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, Jan. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Eisenhower School multi-purpose room. There will be no second Saturday registration. The spring schedule includes a co-ed T-ball program for kindergarten boys and girls, a modified T-ball/baseball/ softball program for boys and girls in first grade, baseball for boys in grades two through eight, and softball for girls in grades two through eight. Boys in grades four through eight playing recreation baseball will once again be using wooden bats this year. The fee for kindergarten and first grade is $50 and the fee for grades two through eight is $55. The spring baseball/softball season will begin with practices in late March or early April. Games, along with the Annual Opening Day Parade for grades one through eight, will begin on Saturday, April 24. The season will end no later than June 12. Kindergarten T-ball will begin on May 1; the first grade students’ program will start on April 27 and end on June 12. Bunco Party to benefit Baby Basics The Sisterhood at Temple Beth Rishon is hosting a Bunco Party on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. to benefit Baby Basics and Jewish Family Services. Newcomers host tournament, Pizza Night The Wyckoff Newcomers & Neighbors are hosting the Second Annual Paddle Tournament & Pizza Night on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Brookside Racquet Club in Allendale. Racquets, balls, and pizza will be provided. Members and those interested in joining are welcome to attend. No previous paddle experience is needed. Solar system program offered The Lower Hudson Valley Challenger Center based in Airmont, New York will offer a presentation on the solar system on Sunday, Jan. 24 from 2 to 3 p.m. in the James Monroe Room of the Wyckoff Public Library. Children will learn about the rovers rolling around Mars, probes colliding with comets, the planets, and the moon. They will also be able to participate in hands on demonstrations. Wyckoff Y holds annual meeting The Wyckoff Family YMCA will hold its annual board meeting Jan. 20 at 8 a.m. in the Y’s Lake House, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff. The public is welcome to attend. Highlights will include an overview of missions and goals for the coming year, a review of the successes of the Y’s community partnerships, the swearing in of officers, and election of board members for a three-year term. A light breakfast will be served. ‘From Palette to Palate’ Wyckoff YMCA and Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce will present “From Palette to Palate: An Evening of Great Taste” on Friday, Jan. 22 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Spend the evening tasting offerings from the restaurants, caterers, and markets of Wyckoff. Sip wines from around the country and bid on incredible works of art by many talented local artists. Retirement and estate planning program slated The Friends of the Wyckoff Public Library will offer a program on retirement and estate planning on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 7 p.m. “Should a Roth IRA Be Part of Your Future?” will focus on opportunities available for 2010 Roth Conversions. Bereavement support group forming The Church of Saint Elizabeth, 700 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff will hold a support group for individuals who have experienced a loss at least three months ago. The program will begin Feb. 2 and continue for eight consecutive Tuesdays. The group will meet from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Amadeus Room on the second floor of the Parish Center. Open to men and women of all faiths, the group will provide a safe, confidential atmosphere to meet and spend time with others who have also experienced a loss. All sessions are guided by trained, experienced leaders who have lost loved ones. Advance registration is requested.
