She was a U.S. Cadet Corps nurse during WWII and later served as school nurse in Wyckoff. She was a volunteer with the Glen Rock Ambulance Corps. She is survived by her daughter Maureen Bartenbach of Florida, her granddaughter Sheri Ann McGill, and her great grandson Damian Michael Perino and his grandfather Ronald McGill of Midland Park. She was predeceased by her husband William. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home. Virginia Holden Cordes of Ridgewood died Dec. 11. She was 84. She was one of the original nurses at Ridgewood’s Valley Hospital in 1950. Before retiring in 1988, she was the evening nursing supervisor at Valley. She is survived by her children Geoffrey William Cordes of Hailey, Idaho, Dr. John Holden Cordes of West Hartford, Connecticut, and Barbara Cordes Selvey of Sturbridge, Massachusetts, six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband H. William Cordes Jr., her granddaughter Elizabeth Frances, her parents Spencer and Frances Holden, and her sister Eleanor. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Drechsel of Sarasota, Florida, formerly of Waldwick, died Jan. 2. She was 91. She is survived by her husband A. Harry, her children Gloria of Venice, Florida, Harry of West Milford, Robert of Hackettstown, Thomas of Passaic, Paul of Venice, Florida, and James of Oakland, five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and his brother Michael Mazzarello of Bayside, New York. Betty Galenkamp of Wyckoff died Dec. 28. She was 92. She was a homemaker and a member of Hawthorne Gospel Church and a member of its Senior Adults. She is survived by her sons Harold Jr. of Wyckoff, Ken of Wyckoff, and James of Orwell, Vermont, five grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and his siblings Jeanette, Elizabeth, Ellie, Peter, Jack, and Joe. Before retiring, she was secretary to the president at Exxon Oil Company in New Margaret Bartenbach York. She was a volunteer at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and a communicant of Saint Luke’s Church. She is survived by her sister Ruth Delamater of Guilderland, New York, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Burnell F. Heisey and her brothers Charles and James Olsen. Arrangements were made by Hans Funeral Home in Albany, New York. William Keppler of Upper Saddle River died Jan. 5. He was 76. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He first worked in his family’s owned German delicatessens in Inwood, New York, Fort Lee, and Blauvelt, New York. He started Arrow Stationery in Hackensack and later invested in bagel bakeries throughout northern New Jersey. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. He was a member of the Stony Point Yacht Club on the Hudson, serving as vice president of the board of directors. He was a member of the Professional Ski Instructors of America and taught at Sterling Forest Ski School in New York. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Burleigh), his children Kathleen, Christopher, and Belinda, four grandchildren, and his brother Joseph. Smith of Ho-Ho-Kus died Jan. 4. He was 75. While working at Gibbs & Cox, he helped design the SS United States and was instrumental in developing the first nuclear powered destroyer. Before retiring he was employed with Burns & Roe in Oradell. He was a parishioner of Saint Luke’s RC Church in Ho-Ho-Kus and a member of Chi Phi Fraternity. He is survived by his wife Gloria Smith (nee Syrotiuk) of Ho-Ho-Kus, his two daughters Christine A. Smith of Ho-Ho-Kus and Cynthia A. Smith of Ridgewood, one granddaughter, and his sister Ruth Vlamynck. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home. Harry L. Petersen of Clearwater Beach, Florida and Wyckoff died Jan. 2. He was a senior vice president of Lehman Brothers, New York, New York before starting his William Keppler own company of Harry L. Petersen Co., Credit Consulting in Wyckoff. He was a member of West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood. He is survived by his children Louis T. Petersen of Ridgewood, Joy Petersen of Dunedin, Florida, Carla Kerber of Freeport, Maine, and Rev. Ellen Petersen of Leeds, Massachusetts, two grandchildren, and his sister Jean Marshall of Fort Myers, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife Mildred and his daughter Janice. Cornelius “Spike” Spyckaboer Jr. of Mahwah and Wyckoff died Jan. 6. He was 78. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Before retiring in1996, he worked for the Glen Rock Board of Education as a custodian at Glen Rock High School. In his early career, he was a selfemployed carpenter and he had worked in asphalt paving with R. Douma and Son and Peter Englishman. He was a member of the Midland Park-Wyckoff VFW Post 7086 and the American Legion Post 130 in Midland Park. He was a member of the Cedar Hill Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff. He is survived by his sons Dennis Spyckaboer of Wyckoff and Douglas Spyckaboer of Charlotte, North Carolina, and his sister Cornelia Hagedorn of Midland Park. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was the vice president of Friedrich-Kurz International Shipping and Moving Co. of Giessen, Germany for over 20 years. He was a member of the European Rod and Gun Club, and served as a conservation forestry ranger. He was a member of the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church. He is survived by his son, Walter D.
