Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • February 24, 2010 Wyckoff The Wyckoff Police Department interrupted an escape by two Brooklyn thieves last week and recovered a stolen Rolex watch valued at $27,600 from a snowdrift. Police report that the two 22-year-old men from Brooklyn were chased through the streets by Wyckoff police in a car chase and threw the watch out of the moving car. The watch landed in a snow bank on the Russell Avenue and was slightly damaged. The attempt began when one of the two Brooklyn men entered Hartgers Jewelers on Wyckoff Avenue. He asked to try on a Presidential Rolex Watch and then abruptly fled. The store provided a quick description of the thief and the Two Brooklyn men charged in theft of Rolex car he had jumped into when he fled the store at 3:15 p.m. Feb. 17. The information was broadcast to police patrols. Wyckoff Patrolman Michael DeMaio heard the broadcast and then saw the car drive past him on Russell Avenue. DeMaio made a U-turn and gave chase as he made an assistance call. Franklin Lakes Patrolman Rob Grassi joined the pursuit and the car was cut off and stopped on the southbound entrance to Route 208. The driver of the car was charged with conspiracy to commit third degree theft and the man in the back seat, identified as the man who tried on the Rolex and then fled wearing it, was charged with theft. Bail was set at $10,000 each. Both made bail and were released. Both men reportedly denied everything at first, and the Rolex could not be found in their car. Police conjectured that the men might have ditched the evidence when they saw DeMaio make the U-turn and give chase. During a careful search of the escape route, Patrolman Michael Musto turned up the watch in the snow bank along Russell Avenue. Midland Park Police Chief John Casson and Wyckoff Detective Sergeants Joseph Soto and Jack McEwan assisted in the investigation. J.
