Girls invited to self esteem workshop The Junior League of Bergen County’s StarPower, a workshop for fifth and sixth grade girls, will be held at the Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff, on March 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Now in its fourth year, the workshop includes interactive sessions addressing self-esteem, cliques, cyber bullies, Internet communication safety, and social interactions and conflicts for both the girls and their parents or guardians. Pre-registration through the JLBC website (www.thejlbc.org) is required, and space is limited. Each girl must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Light refreshments will be served and T-shirts will be provided for the girls. Parents or guardians will be asked to sign a photo release. Computer courses offered Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is offering a two-day computer course, which is open to the community. Celebrate Purim at Beth Rishon Temple Beth Rishon in Wyckoff invites the community for a special Purim celebration on Saturday, Feb. 27. The evening will begin with a congregational Pasta Dinner at 5:30 p.m., followed by a family Megillah reading at 6:15 p.m. This will include Purim songs with the youth choirs, a magician, and a costume parade. At 7 p.m. an adults only Megillah reading will be presented by Rabbi Sandy Olshansky, Cantor Ilan Mamber, and the Rishon Bima Players. The family festivities continue at 7:15 p.m. with a live DJ and desserts. Dinner is free for members with reservations. The cost for non-members is $18 per adult and $7 for children ages five through 12. Traveling softball registration open Registration for the Wyckoff Recreation and Parks Department girls’ select traveling softball teams will be open until Friday, Feb. 26. Girls ages nine through 14 as of Jan. 1, 2010 (typically grades three through nine) who are interested in one of the traveling teams must register at the recreation office by this date. Registration is open to Wyckoff residents. Teams will be available at the U10, U12, and U14 levels. A copy of the prospective participant’s birth certificate is required when registering. Tryout schedules will be issued to registered players. The summer travel softball program will begin practicing in May and will play games from mid-June through July.
