Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • February 3, 2010 Franklin Lakes Life saving police officers receive commendation by Frank J. McMahon Three Franklin Lakes police officers have been honored by Mayor Maura DeNicola for their participation in life saving events. Detective Jeffrey Jost and Patrolmen Andrew Cacciatore and Jon Rynander were honored at a recent public meeting of the governing body for their response to two separate emergency calls, a few months apart, reporting that the same young child, under two years of age, was choking. Jost, Cacciatore, and Rynander were dispatched on the first call. Steven and Terri Hecht of Peach Tree Lane, the grateful parents, described what happened when their daughter’s life was saved: “Within what seemed to be like seconds after calling, these officers were inside our house, fully equipped and ready to conduct life-saving procedures on our daughter. Because of their speed, intelligence, calm under pressure, and soothing characters, they were able to turn the crisis into a non-event.” A few months later, Cacciatore was dispatched in response to another 911 call because the same child was again choking. According to the Hechts, “He arrived immediately, fully geared up and ready to save our child, and was able to control the situation without incident.” Steven Hecht added, “He even took the time to speak with us afterward about proper diet and eating habits to avoid the occurrence from happening again.” DeNicola emphasized that the parents were greatly appreciative of the policemen’s efforts and thankful to the borough for providing them with these officers. “My daughter might not be here but for these officers,” Steven Hecht said. “They were in our house in seconds. We got through it only because these men were prepared, smart, and human.” In a letter the parents sent to Police Chief Irving Conklin, Steven Hecht stated, “These fine officers, who, like every other officer on your force that we have met in our few years here embody that rare combination of toughness, kindness, and a willingness to protect and serve that make them so deserving of our thanks and praise.” Jost accepted the proclamation from the mayor, saying, “It’s really all in a day’s work. It’s what we are trained for, it’s our job, and we take it very seriously, and it’s nice to see this outcome.” “On behalf of the council and our residents,” DeNicola told the public who attended the meeting, “I do hereby commend Detective Jeffrey Jost, Patrolman Andrew Cacciatore and Patrolman Jon Rynander for their heroic actions and applaud the professionalism and caring they brought to these crises and celebrate the outcome of their remarkable service. We think we have the best police officers in the State of New Jersey.” Helpful Hints Helpful Hints from Peter Says... ome Foundation sets fundraiser date The Franklin Lakes Education Foundation will host its annual fundraiser and auction on Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township.
