nown for top quality children’s shoes and service for generations, Slobodien Stride Rite is Wyckoff’s neighborhood shoe store. Owner Joe Kolsby takes pride in providing each customer with personalized attention – sometimes even going out to their car and measuring the feet of a child sleeping in a car seat. Catering to the customers has paid off in long-term relationships with parents and children who trust Stride Rite and have been returning time and time again since this local store opened in 1990. “We know our customers by name,” Joe notes. Slobodien shoe stores have been family owned and operated since Joe’s great grandfather, Joseph Slobodien, opened the first one in Perth Amboy in 1888. Joe knows that customers can always expect better service from a family-owned store. In fact, he will often keep the store open a little later if Tori Colella, Joseph Kolsby and Janet Williamson a customer calls and says they can’t get (not pictured, Michele Van Orden, there until after closing. The store strives Amy Giarratana and Amanda Troiano) to suit a customer’s needs. “At Slobodien Stride Rite, extra wide widths are a specialty,” Joe adds. “We also fill doctors’ prescriptions for footwear, including arch supports and other orthotics.” Joe’s experienced, long-term sales associates enjoy their work, making a better shopping experience for you. They are always ready to help customers get the right fit. While some other stores’ employees tend to come and go all the time, Joe finds a more mature staff relates better to the parents and children. Over the years, the parents and staff members have developed a level of trust that has opened the door to frank discussions about a wide range of parenting issues. At times, some parents even feel comfortable enough to allow their children to stay for a brief period at the shop’s play area while they run to the nearby grocery store. Slobodien Stride Rite also carries raincoats, boots, umbrellas, socks, tights, and a line of bows that girls just can’t resist. Customers find the ample parking and ease of local shopping, as compared to the hassle of the malls, great reasons to shop at Slobodien Stride Rite, located in the Boulder Run Shopping Center, Wyckoff, across from the new Stop &Shop.
