John Keene, a long-time member of the Franklin Lakes Department of Public Works, is in dire need of a kidney transplant. Keene’s family, friends, and supporters are currently searching for someone with O-positive blood who would be willing to literally give Keene the gift of life with the donation of a kidney. “Those who know John recognize how dedicated to Franklin Lakes he has been over the years,” said Franklin Lakes Councilwoman Paulette Ramsey. “As a DPW worker, it is John and his co-workers who plow our streets, hang the flags along Franklin Avenue, provide upkeep and repair for our buildings, and so much more. His dedication to our community and our quality of life is second to none. “Though John and his wife live in nearby Midland Park, his heart remains in Franklin Lakes where he was raised and

his father was also a member of the fire department. He is a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a kind and generous friend, and a dedicated public servant.” Ramsey noted that Keene ahs served as a member of the Franklin Lakes Volunteer Fire Department for more than 30 years. Two years ago, when the borough needed better storage for the equipment at the recreation field, Keene stepped up to build locked cages in the attic. This year, as the difficult economy limited the budget for holiday decorations, Keene took it upon himself to construct a snowman family for the park on Franklin Avenue. “During this holiday season, please join me in showing our gratitude to John by helping him with his search for a kidney,” Ramsey added. “If you have O-positive blood, please consider this most important gift of life. If that’s not possible, please for-

Public Service Electric & Gas, New Jersey’s largest utility, will upgrade and replace underground electric facilities from the Waldwick switching station to the south Mahwah substation. According to PSE&G, the purpose of this infrastructure upgrade investment is to continue safe, reliable utility service for area residents and business owners. The project’s construction activities along this 5.5 mile circuit will be completed between January and May 2011, with a majority of the work within public road rights-of-way taking place from January to April. During this period, utility service to PSE&G customers will continue as usual. PSE&G expects to be working in the

Franklin Turnpike/Chestnut Street area in Allendale on or about Jan. 10. Work in this area would continue until approximately March 24. The utility plans to be working on Franklin Turnpike (at Wyckoff Lake) to West Airmount Road in the Ramsey and Mahwah area on or about Jan. 20 through approximately April 15. In an effort to expedite this work, PSE&G has scheduled extended work hours Monday through Friday, with some 24-hour and/or weekend work expected during certain aspects of the project. PSE&G stresses that the construction dates and scheduled work hours identified are tentative and subject to minimal variations due to the construction process. No major road closings are expected, but lane closures and/or detours will be necessary during construction. Motorists may want to travel an alternate route until the work is completed. Local police will be on site at all times to oversee new traffic patterns. Interruptions will be kept to a minimum, and PSE&G regrets any inconvenience the project may cause. For everyone’s safety, PSE&G crews use work area protection including local police
department traffic management assistance, traffic cones, barriers, utility work signs, and flaggers, providing measures for a safe project completion. The utility reminds motorists to slow down and be alert when driving past a PSE&G job site. Public Service Electric and Gas Company is New Jersey’s oldest and largest regulated gas and electric delivery utility, serving nearly three-quarters of the state’s population.
