Calvary Announces Special Christmas Events Calvary Lutheran Church, 165 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, will present its Advent Choral Holy Communion Service on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 10:45 a.m. This service will feature both Senior Adult Choir and the Youth Choir. Following the worship service, a special “Christmas Cookie Sampler” coffee hour will be held in Calvary’s Fellowship Hall. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, two candlelight services offering Holy Communion are planned. At 4 p.m., the Family Candlelight Service will include the lighting of candles, traditional hymns, and inspirational scripture lessons. The Calvary Senior Choir, under the direction of Joseph Turrin, and the Calvary Youth Choir, under the direction of Marilyn Agresta assisted by Pam Grumbles, will offer special music for this service. Calvary’s youth will serve as worship assistants. At 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve, a Festive Candlelight Service of Holy Communion will be offered. This service will also include traditional readings and hymns and candlelight. Advent activities announced Highlands Presbyterian Church in Allendale will offer a special musical presentation, “The Promise of Light,” by Joel Raney on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, there are two services planned. The children’s service will be celebrated at 5 p.m. The 8 p.m. service will begin with a musical prelude at 7:15 p.m. The community is welcome. Special Christmas sermons, programs set This Advent season, the First Presbyterian Church is celebrating The Miracle of Christ with Us. On Dec. 19, Rev. Beverly Dempsey will offer the sermon The Grand Miracle at the 10 a.m. service. The 11 p.m. Candlelight Eucharist service on Dec. 24 will feature the sermon Miracles Happen. Also on Christmas Eve, the Christmas Pageant will be presented at 5 p.m. and the Men’s Choir will perform at 10:30 p.m. First Presbyterian’s services are broadcast on Cablevision from 5 to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Holiday Services planned The Membership Committee of the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, welcomes all to attend the special holiday services. On Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m., there will be an “Intergenerational Christmas Pageant.” The 7 p.m. service on Dec. 24, “Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols,” will be filled with music, readings, and reflections. The traditional “Fireside Service” will take place Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. Members and friends are welcome to share stories, poems, music, and more. A New Year’s service is planned for Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. This service, “Coffin and Cradle,” is both serious and hopeful. Attendees may bring an object to put in the coffin symbolizing something they want buried and an object to place in the cradle symbolizing something they hope to give birth to in the New Year.
