Midland Park resident Ester Vierheilig, owner and publisher of Villadom TIMES, recently received the New Jersey Municipal Management Association’s Press Award for outstanding service to local government. Vierheilig was nominated by Midland Park Borough Administrator Michelle Dugan, who also presented the award during the recent League of Municipalities convention in Atlantic City. In presenting the award, Dugan said Vierheilig “provides sound foundation to understand the complexities of reporting on local government and local activities, volunteer and statutory alike. “Ester is a professional, dedicated to presenting accurate, unbiased, and responsible newspaper articles to keep the public informed. She contacts governing body members, administrators, and associated sources to check her facts as necessary. She is a reporter who will go the extra mile to see that upcoming public events receive mention in the paper and thereby helping to promote their success. Her professional relationship with the MIDLAND PARK Holiday GIFT GUIDE Villadom publisher earns NJMMA Press Award communities she serves is a model that should be a standard,” Dugan concluded. Vierheilig thanked Dugan and the administrators association for selecting her for the award and thanked the Northwest Bergen administrators present at the event for their invaluable help and cooperation so that she and her staff can do their reporting job well. Vierheilig and her husband Albert founded the Villadom Times in 1987. She continues to serve as one of the newspaper’s local reporters, covering the boroughs of Midland Park and Waldwick. Over the years, she has served as a Midland Park Board of Education trustee and president, and as Midland Park mayor. In 2006 Vierheilig received the Boy Scouts of America’s Community Service Award from the Iaopogh Mountains District and was the Wyckoff Family YMCA’s Woman of the Year in 1997. She was named Citizen of the Year for 1978 by Midland Park/Wyckoff’s American Legion Post No. 130, and received the VFW/American Legion Lifetime Community Service Award in 2008.
