Scouts host Christmas Tree Sale Boy Scout Troop 34 of Franklin Lakes will hold a Christmas Tree Sale on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes United Methodist Church at 454 Pulis Avenue. The sale will be held through Dec. 19. The Scouts will be selling nursery-grown Christmas trees, wreaths, and roping for the holiday season, and will be on hand to assist in the selection and loading of trees. Auditions for Dafur benefit concert open Local musicians, including teens, adults, professionals, and amateurs, are invited to audition for the Second Annual Concert for Darfur on Dec. 5 and 12 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Barnert Temple, 747 Route 208 South, Franklin Lakes. Musicians should bring the lyrics of the song they wish to perform and their instrument. The acoustic coffee-house style event will take place Jan. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the temple. Church hosts art exhibit Handmade artwork and functional art objects for holiday gift giving will be on exhibit at The Gallery at The Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes, 730 Franklin Lake Road, Franklin Lakes, from Dec. 3 through 13. The works of artists Jeanne Wheaton, Caren Sommer-Lazar, Jill Baratta, Marilyn Deitchman, Beryl Maddalena, and Stephanie Maddalena will remain in the gallery for viewing and sale until Jan. 2. The exhibit and sale will include oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings, ink and digitally altered prints, assemblages, original jewelry, knitted and crocheted work, tabletop sculptures, one-of-a kind aprons, hand-decorated picture frames, holiday ornaments, and other affordable art objects not found anywhere else. The group of artists will hold a series of opening receptions which will include refreshments on Dec. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m., Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the church. Children’s bead craft offered Local children are invited to create a bead project for holiday giving with artist Jacque Benevento at the Franklin Lakes Public Library. Bead-Dazzled will be offered in two sessions, the first on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 3 to 4:15 Woodside Ave. School in Franklin Lakes recently held a school-wide food drive to collect food and money to fill baskets and purchase grocery gift cards for those in need this Thanksgiving season. Seniors plan events The Franklin Lakes Seniors will travel to the Westchester Broadway Theater in Elmsford, New York to see “A Sleepy Hollow Christmas Carol,”on Dec. 9 This new musical based upon the characters by Charles Dickens and Washington Irving was adapted by Jean-Paul Richards. Recreation offers men’s softball league Registration for the Franklin Lakes Recreation Men’s Softball League will be held Feb. 1 through March 15. The cost of registration is $800 per team. Games will be played on weeknights beginning in April. The season concludes in mid-July. ASA rules apply and ASA bats must be used.
