Letters to the Editor
(continued from page 24) Barba, Kerry Bascio, Christine Christopoul, Nicole Crystal, Tracy Kuehn, and all their wonderful friends who came out to volunteer for the evening. We raised $650,000 with the support of community groups, corporations, individuals, and our dedicated IronMatt Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Committee. We especially would like to thank Phil and Diana Simms for opening up their hearts to our cause and being our honorary co-chairs for the evening. We would like to extend our gratitude to Matthew’s best friend Gretchen, Dr. Neil Feldstein, and Erika and Matthew Pitera for their presence and remarks that pulled at the heart strings of all in attendance. This is the fourth Thanksgiving without our Matthew, and it is still bittersweet. We miss him so much, but we are proud of the strength IronMatt has shown in the past three years. We have granted almost $1 million to fund cuttingedge research by scientists at top academic medical centers across the United States. Our mission is to not only find a cure, but also to find a way to lessen the toxins in treatments. The foundation has established a family assistance program to ease the tremendous burden of those affected. We have recently hired a full time executive director, Michelle Andryshak, who is on board to bring our foundation to the next level. Significant progress has been made throughout the past four decades, but far too many children are still diagnosed every day with a brain tumor. We continue to need your help. May you and your families enjoy a joyous holiday season and a hopeful New Year. Kelly, Greg, Chris, Shannon, and Nick Larson Franklin Lakes
