Local church celebrates 40 years The Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Wyckoff will host its 40th Anniversary Celebration Gala at the Tides Estates, 1245 Belmont Avenue in North Haledon, on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. The community will also honor Father James Moulketis on the 40th Anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood and for his dedication to Saint Nicholas Church. The black tie optional evening will include dinner, dancing, and special fundraisers. All proceeds will benefit Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Toys for Tots drop-off site announced The Wyckoff Family YMCA, 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff has been designated as an official drop-off site for the U.S. Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program. New, unwrapped toys may be deposited in designated boxes at the Y. ‘Operation Toy Train’ scheduled Children are invited to “Operation Toy Train” on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 11:45 to 12:45p.m. at the Wyckoff depot, 399 Main Street in Wyckoff. Meet the Marines and Santa. Church sets ‘Christmas around the World’ On Dec. 3 and 4, Grace United Methodist Church will host its 46th Annual Christmas Fair. The theme is “Christmas around the World.” Hours will be Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the church, 555 Russell Avenue (corner of Eder Avenue), Wyckoff. The fair will include festive foods, craft items, baked goods, baskets of prizes, the General Store, wreaths, handmade knitted items, jewelry, new toys, photographs with
Santa, poinsettias, and more. The fair will also include home based business vendors. Winners of the prize baskets will be announced at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The church’s Senior High Youth Fellowship will sell Christmas wreaths. Proceeds will be used to fund a summer mission trip. During the fair, the Grace UMC kitchen will sell homemade soup, chili, chicken pot pies, and other lunch and dinner items. Photos with Santa will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The photos will be available at the church. For more information, call (201) 891-4595. ‘Santa Comes to Wyckoff’ coming up The Wyckoff Chamber of Commerce’s Santa Comes to Wyckoff and Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held Friday, Dec. 3. (Rain date: Dec. 6.) The community is invited to share the magic of the tree lighting, visit with Santa, and enjoy refreshments and holiday music. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck to meet and greet children and their families at the following locations: Cedar Hill Plaza, 4 p.m.; Wyckoff Shopping Center, 5 p.m.; Main Street, 5:45 p.m.; Mayflower Shopping Center, 6 p.m.; Wyckoff Square Shopping Center, 6:45 p.m.; Boulder Run Shopping Center, 7 p.m.; and Wyckoff Town Hall for the tree lighting at 7:45 p.m. Please note: Santa will not be getting off the truck at Main Street and Wyckoff Square Shopping Center. Children’s Retreat fundraiser underway The Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat is holding a shopping fundraiser at the Wyckoff Peddler, 861 Franklin Avenue in Franklin Lakes. Supporters of this home for children with multiple disabilities may shop at the Wyckoff Peddler and have 20 percent of their pre-tax purchases donated to the retreat. Zabriskie House doors will open to visitors The trustees of the VanVoorhees-QuackenbushZabriskie House invite local residents to a Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 18th and early 19th century historical home is located at 421 Franklin Avenue in Wyckoff. This annual event, held nearly since 1976, will showcase the house for the holiday season, complete with wreaths and garlands of fresh greens designed specifically for this occasion by volunteers of the Wyckoff Area Garden Club. Highlighting the day will be self-guided tours throughout the house, giving visitors the opportunity to experience a Wyckoff home as it appeared two centuries ago. Cookies

and mulled cider will be served in the home’s period dining room. Holiday music will add to the atmosphere. All area residents are invited to this special event. Those who are studying New Jersey history this year may especially appreciate the experience of being in a local historical home during the holiday season. The admission fee is $5 for adults; $3 for senior citizens and children under age 12. Menorah lighting and toy collection set Chabad of NWBC and Tons of Toys in Wyckoff are sponsoring a Toy Drive for needy children at the Wyckoff Town Hall Menorah Lighting on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. The free program is open to the entire community and residents of neighboring towns. Donated toys may be dropped off at the store, which is located at 315 Franklin Avenue in the Rock Ledge Shopping Center, or brought to the lighting ceremony. In addition to the menorah lighting, participants will enjoy entertainment, hot Chanukah refreshments, glow-giveaways, and Chazan Ilan Mamber of Beth Rishon, all in a super-sized heated tent. Over 500 new toys collected before and at the event will fill a 15 foot, menorah-shaped hollow frame, making it the largest toy collection menorah in the world. After candles are lit atop the menorah’s branches, the toys will be distributed to children in need throughout New Jersey and in the Crimea.
