The Midland Park Public Education Foundation has met its goal to fund Phase 1 of its “Access to All” grant and will have in place $68,000 worth of new equipment in the borough schools when they open next month. According to MPPEF President Missy Furlong, the grant will provide elementary school children with 44 new laptops, three COWs, and six desktop computers in the Highland School media resource center. High school students will develop

and expand their broadcasting and journalism talents using a modern mixing board, studio monitors, audio mixing boards and more, to replace outdated equipment from 30 years ago. With this new equipment, the quality of MPTV broadcasts will also improve. The grant also includes a new Elmo for Highland School students. All of these devices are state-of-the-art learning tools that will directly improve the process and experience of teaching and learning in the schools for all students. Funding of the ATA Phase 1 grant was achieved through a variety of sources. Leading the way were the association’s founders, with a $25,000 donation from the Founders Club fund; the Fernandez Family, who provided a launch donation of $10,000; and an anonymous donation of $6,000. An additional $13,000 was raised from supporters of the 2010 Spring Fling Blue Jean Ball, and the remainder through individual ATA
donations. The ATA campaign was chaired by Anne Marie Campbell and Linda Steuerwald. “The Midland Park Public Education Foundation exists for one reason only: To raise money to fund grants that can strengthen academics in our school system for all our children,” said Furlong. “Our challenge of keeping up with technology will continue with the launching of ATA’s Phase 2 and Phase 3, in 2011 and 2012 respectively.”
