Area August 4, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • Page 7 The annual Waldwick Lions Club Family Days Carnival will take place Aug. 9 through 14 this year on the Forum School property on Wyckoff Avenue, Waldwick. Join the Waldwick Lions Club each night from 7 to 11 p.m. for food, rides, games, and an opportunity to win a cash prize. Purchase a wristband for $20 and enjoy unlimited rides on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. A fireworks display will be held on Wednesday night (rain date Saturday). Founded in 1955, the Waldwick Lions Club supports sight-related organizations, such as the Seeing Eye program and other Lions Club Carnival coming to Waldwick this week state-approved programs for the blind and visually impaired; the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; and local civic projects. The club distributes approximately $50,000 per year to its selected causes. Since its inception, the group has provided a total of $1.5 million to its various beneficiaries. Over the years, the club has been a major contributor to the public library, built and maintained the health center, constructed the pavilion/gazebo at Borough Park, and created Lions Playground. The club also sponsors local ball teams, provides schol- arships to Waldwick students who are pursuing college educations, and works closely with the school nurse to provide confidential funding for eye exams and glasses for students in need. The carnival is the club’s major fund- raiser, netting approximately 50 percent of the group’s budget each year. Advance tickets are being sold at L.A. Street Vans at 149 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, and at Plaza Jewelers, 10 East Prospect Street, Waldwick.
