Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • August 4, 2010 Area The Wyckoff Police Department and the Franklin Lakes Police Department are investigating multiple burglaries that took place in both municipalities on July 26. Two burglaries occurred on July 26 on Cresthaven Road, Wyckoff, near the Franklin Lakes border. Wyckoff police report that one house was entered by slicing a screen on a rear window, allowing the open exterior window to be raised. Computer equipment and a cell phone were stolen. At one of the Wyckoff houses, a car in the driveway was also entered. The other house was entered through an unlocked rear sliding door. A different Wyckoff house had been burglarized in the same neighborhood on May 17. On July 26 in Franklin Lakes, a Tanglewood Court Burglaries reported in Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes resident reported that during the overnight, unknown persons had entered his residence and stole cash and a video game console from the kitchen area of the home. Entry was gained via an unlocked window. The same day, another Tanglewood Court resident reported that during the overnight unknown persons had entered his residence through an unlocked rear door. The kitchen area and a ground floor bedroom were entered, and two laptop computers were taken. Detective Anthony Pacelli and Officer Frank O’Brien investigated both incidents. Also on July 26, a resident of Haddon Place in Franklin Lakes reported that, during the overnight, unknown persons had entered a motor vehicle that was parked in the driveway by cutting open the convertible roof and stole a purse from the front seat. A second vehicle that was left unlocked with the keys in the ignition was entered and taken from the premises. Lieutenant John Bakelaar and Officer Frank O’Brien investigated. Franklin Lakes police also report that, during the overnight of July 25, unknown persons burglarized Nails Plus, located in the Franklin Square Shopping Center. Entry was gained by breaking out the glass from the front door. Approximately $500 was taken from the store. Lieutenant John Bakelaar investigated. Police urge residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and to lock their vehicles and the doors and (continued on page 10) The Wyckoff Police Department will use a $4,400 grant from the New Jersey Division of Highway Safety to cover roving patrols and a checkpoint to apprehend drunken drivers, especially between the dates of Aug. 20 and Sept. 6. The state-sponsored program, “Over the Limit, Under Arrest,” aims to take impaired drivers off the road. First-time offenders face several thousand dollars in fines and three months to one year of license suspension. Second and third-time offenders, and those first-time Wyckoff receives funds for ‘Over the Limit’ effort offenders who cause serious accidents or injuries, also face jail time. Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox noted that 31 percent of motor vehicle fatalities in New Jersey involve alcohol, and most occur during the summer travel season. “It is impossible to safely operate a motor vehicle if you have consumed too much alcohol,” Chief Fox said. He added that drunk drivers could expect to be arrested if they proved to be intoxicated. “We owe it to all other motorists who expect to get to their destinations safely.” The police also added that using a false identification to purchase alcohol when under age is a serious criminal offense. Possessing a false ID is a fourth-degree offense and carries a fine of up to $10,000 and up to 18 months in jail. Using a false ID document is a third-degree offense and carries a fine of up to $15,000 and between three to five years in jail.
