Neighbor to buy residential lot on Van Blarcom
to annex the 50 by 120-foot lot to his home at 46 Van Blarcom Ave. Mahoney recently purchased the single family house from the estate of Gertrude Neill. The undeveloped lot, owned by LG Realty LLC, adjoins Bjork Builders’s offices at 157 Godwin Ave. Earlier this year LG Realty sought planning board approval to develop the lot, which lies in the R-1 zone. The board denied the request, however, because the property was tied by resolution to the Godwin Avenue lot as part of the approvals
Bjork received in 1988 when the company converted the residential property on the site into an office. The empty lot on Van Blarcom satisfied lot coverage and parking requirements for the business property, even though Bjork never developed it for that use. At that time, neighbors were happy that the back lot was kept in its natural state. Board Chairman Kent Rigg noted that the original intent of the board when Bjork’s application was approved in 1988 was to keep the property residential.

An undersized Midland Park lot its owner had tried to develop as a single-family house will instead be annexed to an adjoining property. The resultant 100 by 120-ft. lot will be more closely in conformance with the requirements of the residential zone it’s on.
