At its last meeting the board hired Solutions Architecture to conduct the systems audit at a cost not to exceed $30,500. Stacy Garvey, the district’s business administrator, said that the audit will identify the needs, from which a plan will be made prioritizing possible solutions. The results are expected in the fall. “What we hope to accomplish is to save money and make the district an environmentally responsible energy user,” said board Vice President William Sullivan, who heads the finance committee. “We expect the results of the audit to recommend improvements in lighting, heating and air conditioning, computer controls, water conservation and other energy saving opportunities,” he added. Sullivan said that the idea for the audit came out of discussions he had had last year with Marty Costello and the Midland Park High School Athletic Boosters regarding School district undergoing energy audit upgrades to the lighting in the high school gym and opportunities under the NJ Clean Energy program. An energy services company made a presentation to the buildings and grounds committee and they decided to recommend the audit to the board. “Based on the projected cost savings and rebate/grant opportunities, we want to present projects for board approval that will accomplish our goals and more than pay for themselves along with the cost of the audit,” Sullivan said. “Although our buildings and building systems are in need of repair and upgrades, there is only so much we will be able to do within our budget and without affecting the taxpayer,” said Garvey. “We are looking into different funding opportunities such as using the energy savings to offset payments on a lease/purchase and grants opportunities that are available for energy saving upgrades,” she added. Church sets ‘Christmas in August’ The Midland Park United Methodist Church invites children, ages three and up, to the “Christmas in August” Vacation Bible School, which will be held Aug. 9 through 13. The week-long camp will start each day with breakfast at 9 a.m. and conclude at 12:30 p.m. No pre-registration is required. Children should arrive at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 9 to register.
