Rubin offers autobiography workshop Registration is now open for the fall autobiography workshops, which will begin Sept. 21 at the Presbyterian Church at Franklin Lakes. Janice Rubin, award-winning journalist and author of “Looking Back, Moving On: Memoir as Prologue” and “Four Lives: Despite the Odds,” will lead two eight-week autobiography workshops. Sessions will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. The fee of $96 includes tuition and materials. Registration is limited. For further information and registration, call (201) 3376478. The church is located at 730 Franklin Lake Road. Tax bills available Third quarter 2010 tax bills are now available in the tax collection office. Residents who wish to pay their third quarter taxes now may call (201) 891-0048. Tax bills will be mailed during the first week of August.
The grace period has been extended to Tuesday, Aug. 31. Payments received after Aug. 31 will have interest charged back to Aug. 1, as mandated by the State of New Jersey. The tax collection office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The office will be open from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 23 and Aug. 30. Children’s photography workshop set The Franklin Lakes Public Library will offer a photography workshop for children in grades four and up on Aug. 11. The program will be held from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Attendees are required to bring a digital camera. Registration is required. Franklin Lakes residents may register on July 29; non-residents may register on Aug. 6. Next Stage eNSemble performs restoration comedy New Jersey’s Next Stage eNSemble will perform “The Rover” on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Franklin Lakes Public Library.
The Rover” or “The Banish’d Cavaliers,” first appeared on stage in 1677. The author, Aphra Behn, was a spy for Charles II against the Dutch. However, Charles was slow to pay her for her services, if he ever paid her at all. Behn sought to make money first with her poetry, and then with plays and novels. This restoration comedy features multiple plots, dealing with the amorous adventures of a group of Englishmen in Naples at Carnival time. Genealogy class offered to children Children in grades four through six are invited to explore their family histories at a genealogy class to be held at the Franklin Lakes Public Library on Wednesday, Aug. 4 at 2:30 p.m. Children will receive an introduction to genealogy by the local history librarian. Beading and jewelry workshop set The Franklin Lakes Public Library will hold a beading and jewelry workshop for children in grades three through six. Participants will create original “Pirate Jewelry” with local artist Jacque Benevento on Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Registration is required. Paws for Reading continues The Paws for Reading program at the Franklin Lakes Public Library will continue through the summer. Beginners and accomplished readers who will be entering grades one through six can make friends with well-behaved certified therapy dogs while polishing their reading and public speaking skills. Children are invited to read to one of the dogs for 10minute periods on Aug. 16 from 4 to 5 p.m. Registration is required. Wyckoff police also report that, on July 25, a 19-yearold Wyckoff man was arrested for possession of marijuana, improper turning, and disregard of a traffic signal after Patrolman Brian Zivkovich observed the driver make an improper turn from Martom Road onto Wyckoff Avenue. The driver then failed to observe the traffic signal at Wyckoff Avenue and Cedar Hill Avenue. Zivkovich reportedly spotted a bag of marijuana when the driver opened a console after being pulled over. The driver faces a court appearance in September. A 17-year-old Mahwah boy was arrested by Wyckoff police July 21 and charged with possession of marijuana and narcotics paraphernalia for converting an energy drink container into a marijuana pipe. Detective Sergeant Joseph Soto reportedly observed two juveniles in the Greenwood Shopping Center and said he noticed an odor of marijuana coming from their vehicle. The young man with the pipe was released to his father and a complaint was filed with Bergen County Juvenile Court.
