The meeting will be held in Franklin Avenue Middle School. ‘Scoop Night’ planned The Franklin Lakes Fire Department will be participating in 31 Cent Scoop Night in partnership with the Franklin Lakes Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins, 754 Franklin Avenue, on Wednesday, April 28 from 5 to 10 p.m. The firefighters will be handing out literature on fire safety and temporary tattoos and coloring books for the children. The event will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. Woman’s Club to install officers The Woman’s Club of Franklin Lakes will hold its annual Installation Dinner on Wednesday, May 12 at 6 p.m. at the High Mountain Golf Club, 845 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes. New officers and new members will be officially welcomed. All club members are invited to attend and bring guests. The cost is $38 per person. Auxiliary hosts Spring Celebration The Franklin Lakes Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its Spring Celebration on May 25. The event will be held at The Preakness Hills Country Club, 1050 Ratzer Road, Wayne. The celebration will begin at 6:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, followed by a buffet dinner and dessert stations. There will be live entertainment. Tickets are $60 per person. Chamber music concert offered The Barnert Chamber Ensemble will present the music of Bach, Mendelssohn, Boulanger and Faure on Sunday, May 2. This 7:30 p.m. performance will be held at Barnert Temple, 747 Route 208 South, Franklin Lakes. Members of the chamber ensemble include Laura Hamilton, violin, co-concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Lanny Paykin, cello, regularly playing with the New York City Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; and Janet Montgomery, piano, member of the Serafini Brillanti Trio. Also joining them will be Desiree Elsevier, viola, member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. The concert is in memory of Jay Adleman, who planned, organized and executed these concerts in the past. After the concert, there will be a champagne reception with the performers. The concert is open to the public. Admission is free, but a donation of $18 is suggested. Reservations are encouraged. Belsky named to Dean’s List Scott Belsky of Franklin Lakes was named to the Dean’s List at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois for the winter 2010 term. He is a student in the School of Education and Social Policy. RBARI hosts Golf Outing The Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. will hold the Eric M. Simonyan Memorial Golf Outing on May 10 at the High Mountain Golf Club, 845 Ewing Avenue, Franklin Lakes. Proceeds from this event will benefit the animals at this no-kill shelter. The entry fee is $695 for a foursome or $180 for a single golfer. This fee includes breakfast, cart, practice balls, round of golf at a top quality course, and lunch afterwards. Call Linda Hagedorn at (201) 891-2224 for information. ‘Beyond Never Again’ to begin Chabad of NW Bergen County - Franklin Lakes, is premiering the newest course of the internationally acclaimed Jewish Learning Institute beginning April, 28 at 8 p.m. Envisioned as a journey into the intense realm of meaning, Beyond Never Again examines the universal themes the Holocaust forces people to confront, such as the nature of good and evil, and how empathy and conscience may be nurtured. The course is formulated as a series of facilitated discussions that will enable participants to articulate their personal responses to the Holocaust, and will provide relevant angles on some of life’s most difficult questions pertaining to faith and suffering. The program will run for six consecutive Wednesday evenings and is expected to draw more than 30 local students to its dynamic text-based and audio-visual classes. Each course offered by JLI is taught concurrently in over 300 worldwide affiliate locations to more than 15,000 students. This unique feature has created a true global learning community.
