Register for summer recreation Registration for the Wyckoff Recreation Summer Programs will be held on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eisenhower School. This year’s summer programs include baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, roller hockey, and cheerleading clinics. Registration materials can be picked up at the recreation office. Registration materials will also be available for Bergen’s Best Soccer Camp, O’Hagan’s Sports Camps (football and basketball camps) and North Jersey Lacrosse Camp which will be holding sessions in Wyckoff during the summer. Men’s softball registration to begin Registration for men’s summer softball will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. The league runs from mid-June through mid-August. Games are played on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The program is open to adults age 30 and over who are Wyckoff residents and are interested in playing men’s slow pitch softball. Flag football offered Wyckoff children in kindergarten through second grade are invited to take part in the recreation department’s flag football program this September. Each grade level
will practice separately. The program will run on Saturday afternoons at Community Park from mid- to late September through early to mid-November. Children are permitted to play K-2 flag football and soccer at the same time, the times do not conflict. Volunteer coaches are needed. Registration will take place on Saturday, May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Monday, May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eisenhower School Cafeteria. The fee is $50. For information, call (201) 891-3350. Junior football and cheerleading registration set Registration for the Wyckoff Junior Football program will take place May 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eisenhower School Cafeteria. Registration is open to Wyckoff children who will be entering grades three through eight in the fall of 2010. Two identical wallet-size pictures are required at the time of registration. All registrants, even those who participated last year, must bring a copy of their birth certificate. The fee for this program is $175. Call (201) 891-3350. Registration for football cheerleading will take place at the same time as football registration. Girls who will be entering grades five through eight in the fall are invited to register. Practices begin in August and the season runs through midNovember. The fee for this program is $70. on Sunday, May 2 at 9:45 a.m. Silow-Carroll, editor-in-chief of the New Jersey Jewish News, will speak on the topic “Biased or Clueless? Jewish Distrust of the Mainstream Press.” A widely regarded commentator on American Jewish life, the press, pop culture, religion, humor, and the arts, Silow-Carroll will look at recent and classic examples of Mideast reporting and discuss which ways the reports are inaccurate or subjective. Stephen Grabill, general editor of the new NIV Stewardship Study Bible, will be a keynote speaker. Grabill will show pastors and church leaders how the Stewardship Study Bible can help people discover God’s design for every area of life. Author to discuss local history Local author Carol Greene will address the Wyckoff Historical Society on her new book entitled “The Ramapough Chronicles: A 300-Year History of Mahwah, New Jersey and Its Surrounds” on Monday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. Greene’s book is based on experiences, notable documentation, and collections of the history of the Ramapo Reformed Church and Ramapough Meetinghouse. Over 1600 captioned illustra-
tions, annotated maps, photos and more grace this new history. This event will be held at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. The public is invited. Volunteer opportunities available The Longview Assisted Living Residence at Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff is looking for volunteers for a variety of activities. Friendly visitors are needed from 10 to 11 a.m. and/or from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to visit with, read to, or play a game with residents. Volunteers who can assist with bingo are needed from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, and volunteers who will provide assistance with writing or retrieving emails are needed from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday. Republicans plan meeting The Wyckoff Republican League will meet April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Larkin House, 380 Godwin Avenue. Anyone interested is invited to attend. The group will discuss 2010 events.
