Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES I • April 21, 2010 Midland Park Second resident announces write-in candidacy for BOE A second Midland Park resident has thrown his hat in the ring as a write-in candidate in the April 20 school board election. Ilya Maslov announced last week he is pursuing one of the three seats on the board up for election this year. Brian McCourt is also running as a write-in candidate. Incumbent trustee Sandra Criscenzo and Richard Formicola, a newcomer, turned in petitions by the filing deadline, and their names will appear on the ballot. Criscenzo is seeking her second term on the board. Maslov was born and raised in Russia and received a degree in Music Education from the Moscow Music Academy and a second bachelor’s degree in Economics from the City University of New York .Since immigrating to the United States in the late 1970s, he has performed as a pianist throughout the New York Metropolitan area and abroad and served as the music director at Grace Church of Ridgewood. He is also the CEO of his own real estate development firm. He and his wife Tricia have a daughter who is a freshman at Fordham University and a fifth grader at Highland School. “I promise to be a strong voice that represents the interests of the parents and children of our town and look forward to having open and honest dialogue with our educators. I will seek to get actively involved in the critical issues facing the board and will consider it an honor to serve the community of Midland Park,” Maslov said in a statement. Also on the ballot will be the board’s operating budget of $18,570,806, of which $16,818,459 must be raised through taxation. Taxes on a house assessed at $300,000, the borough’s average, will be $6,005, an increase of $242 for school purposes only. The district saw a drop of $1,150,000 in state aid for next year, which prompted members of the Midland Park Education Association to agree to a salary freeze for the 201011 school year. The election is April 20. Polls will be open 2 to 9 p.m. ���������������New Location��������� ������������������������������� Incumbents file unopposed Only two candidates filed last week for the two available seats on the Midland Park Borough Council. Incumbent council members Patrick “Bud” O’Hagan and Nancy Peet will be on the Primary election ballot on June 8. No Democrats filed. O’Hagan, the current council president, is seeking his seventh term on the council. He heads the council’s Police and Fire Committee and is the borough’s representative to the Joint Insurance Fund, a cooperative venture with other municipalities which manages the town’s insurance policies. O’Hagan also sits on JIF’s executive board. The Meda Place resident is a Realtor with Terrie O’Connor Realtors, Allendale office. He is an active member and past president of the Midland Park Lions Club. Peet, seeking her third full term on the council, is a past president of the Midland Park Board of Education, on which she served for 18 years before being appointed to the council in 2003. She was also chairwoman of the Midland Park Board of Adjustment for seven years. She is a member of the Midland Park Board of Health. Peet chairs the council’s personnel committee and serves as liaison to the board of education. A lifelong resident of Hill Street and a Registered Nurse, she is currently director of claims management for William H. Connolly & Associates in Montclair.
