This year’s Community Night will be the first major event held in the newly refurbished Veteran’s Hall. The public is invited to attend to honor these dedicated volunteers. Refreshments will be served. Admission is free. Library board to meet The Midland Park Memorial Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the library located at 250 Godwin Avenue, in Midland Park. Meetings are open to the public. Recreation Camp openings announced A Camp Registration Open House to fill existing openings will be held May 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Community Center. The Borough of Allendale is offering a limited number of non-sponsored membership opportunities for Midland Park residents to join the Crestwood Swim Club this summer. Non-resident rates range from $225 for a single membership up to $500 for a family membership. The senior citizen rate is $50. Volunteers sought for Beautification Day Midland Park Recreation is sponsoring a Beautification Day Cleanup on Saturday, May 8. Participants are welcome to help beautify the borough. After school tennis offered Registration is open for an after school tennis program for children in kindergarten through grade eight. Plants can be picked up on the high school front lawn on May 6 between 3 and 5 p.m. Voice-overs class presented Rob Sciglimpaglia will offer “You’re on the Air: How to Really Make It in Voice-Overs” at Midland Park High School on Monday, April 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. Sciglimpaglia, a professional voice-over artist, will introduce this growing industry to those interested in pursing a voice-over career. The class is designed for those who would like to learn how to make money for voicing commercials, narrations, audio books, or video games. Topics covered will include: how the industry works, what types of voice-overs there are, what is involved in technique training, where most of the jobs are headed in 2010, social media, and marketing training. Each student will create his or her own voice-over with the help of the voice coach using Pro Tools, and will receive an on-thespot evaluation. The cost for the class is $40. Soccer group to meet The Midland Park Soccer Association will hold its next meeting on Thursday, April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Midland Park Library. All coaches and parents are encouraged to attend. Foundation plans children’s concert The Midland Park Public Education Foundation is hosting “A Family Night to Remember” concert featuring nationally acclaimed children’s entertainer Johnny the K on Friday, April 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Highland School gym. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. John Kelleher will entertain with his 12-string guitar and his unique collection of hats, masks, and disguises, as he educates and inspires his audiences through his spirited, interactive style of music. Tickets are $10 per child if purchased before Friday, April 16 or $12 per child at the door. There is no charge for parents, and there is a $25 family maximum. PTA sponsors Cultural Awareness Program As part of its Cultural Awareness Program, the Midland Park High School PTA is sponsoring “Make a Difference” on Tuesday, April 13 at 7 p.m. Mountain climber Lori Schneider will provide a media presentation of her quest to climb the highest peak on each continent after she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Schneider will share her experiences and remind the audience to live out their dreams and to climb above their perceived limitations.
