Meeting the challenge
Saint Elizabeth School of Wyckoff recently finished in second place in the Science Challenge at Bergen Catholic High School’s John Brady Memorial Academic Challenge. The team, shown posing with its trophy, consisted of Katelyn Colman of Wyckoff, David Casazza of Wyckoff, Nicole Fraccasini of Midland Park, and Casey Heffernan of Tuxedo, NY. Making the trophy presentation are B.C. Director of Admissions Zeke Rodgers (left) and Principal Tim McElhinney.
Steve King of Wyckoff, a coach at Eastern Christian School, has been named New Jersey Girls Basketball Coach of the Year by the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association. This award is presented annually to a coach whose career and involvement with student athletes provides those athletes with many intangibles and touches their lives in ways that will help them become positive role models in future years. Eastern Christian’s board of directors and administrators and over 300 parents, students, and staff members recently honored King at a dinner at the Brownstone in Paterson. The event was also a benefit for the Eastern Christian athletic program. Eastern Christian High School Principal Mr. Jan Lucas presented King with a custom made plaque commemorating the coach’s honor. Athletes from the audience who have been coached by King during his 35-year career at Eastern Christian joined him at the podium as Lucas announced that King had also been selected to receive the 2009 Northeast Sectional Girls Basketball Coach of the Year award from the National Federation of State High School Associations. The Northeast Section includes Connecticut,

The 2010 Eastern Christian Girls Basketball Team finished the season with a record of 23 wins and 5 losses. The capstone of the season was the team’s victory over Paterson Catholic in the New Jersey State tournament, as Eastern Christian had previously lost to Paterson Catholic in the Passaic County finals. The EC team also played in the final rounds of the Passaic County and the NJ Non-Public B North tournaments.
