Auxiliary to host welcome lunch, fundraiser The Mahwah Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary, an active group of women who help raise funds for Valley Hospital, will be host a Welcome Back Luncheon on Thursday Oct. 1, at MezzaLuna Bistro in Allendale. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon to follow. The cost of the event is $22 per person. Mahwah residents are encouraged to join. Call Jane at (201) 684-1230. Triduum service to honor saint A three part series focusing on the life of Saint Edith Stein will be offered on Oct. 5, 6, and 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 900 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah. Stein was a one-time atheist, philosopher, convert, and Carmelite nun whose life was cut short at Auschwitz. Her brilliant intellect, profound faith, and extraordinary witness continue to affect people today. On Monday, October 5 the program, “A Turn to the Eternal: The Life of St. Edith Stein,” will be presented by Jennifer Edwards, pastoral associate, Church of the Immaculate Conception. “The Centrality of Prayer in the Life of St. Edith Stein” will be presented Rev. John F. Russell, professor of dogmatic systematic theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University on Oct. 6. The Oct. 7 session, “Prayerfully Searching for the Truth with St. Edith Stein,” will be presented by Dr. Dianne Traflet, founder and co-director of the Institute for Christian Spirituality and assistant professor of pastoral theology at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Seton Hall University, and author of “Saint Edith Stein: a Spiritual Portrait.” This evening will include Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. Rosa Angela De Concilio, nee Apone, of Upper Saddle River died Sept. 22. She was 85. She is survived by her children Maria Pretto of Ciconio Canavese, Italy, Nicolina Del Verme of Upper Saddle River, and Olga Perrotta of Franklin Lakes, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and her brother Frank Apone. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Ebersbach, of Peachtree, Georgia, formerly of Wyckoff, died Sept. 20. She was 93. She was a member and elder of the Wyckoff Reformed Church in Wyckoff. She was a volunteer at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and a member of the Wyckoff Historical Society, the Audubon Society, and Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her children, Joy Garde of Peachtree City Georgia, Edward Johnson of Vero Beach, Florida, Joanne Ebersbach of New York City, Robert Ebersbach of Sparta, and James Ebersbach of Baldwinsville, New York, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, John E. Johnson, her second husband, Frank R. Ebersbach and her brother Edward W. Mann. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. David Albert Meester of Florida, New York died Sept. 18. He was 87. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. In a partnership with his father and brother, he built homes in Mahwah. Before retiring, he was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Fleming Revell Publishing Co. During retirement he drove a school bus. He served on the church boards of the Madison Avenue Baptist Church in Paterson, the Wyckoff Baptist Church in Wyckoff, and the Fardale Trinity Church in Mahwah. He taught Sunday school, worked with boys in Christian Service Brigade, and served on many committees in each of the churches. He was a volunteer fireman, chaplain, and president of Mahwah Fire Department, Co. 1. He was a member of the Ambulance Corps. He was a member of the Ocean Grove Fishing Club

and served as pier master. He is survived by his wife Rose (nee Holzman), and their children, Rosemary Stetson of Dummerston, Vermont, David Rudolph Meester of York, South Carolina, Carole Eby of Greenville, South Carolina, and Joyce Hamilton of Florida, New York, 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and his sisters Helene Abbink of Canandaigua, New York, Elizabeth Zabriskie of Schroon Lake, New York, and Jewel Luebke of Newton, North Carolina. Before retiring in 1979, she was a bookkeeper for On Guard Corp. in Carlstadt. She was a former member of the V.F.W. Post 4591 and its Ladies Auxiliary in Hasbrouck Heights. She was a former member of the Mahwah Seniors. She is survived by her children Pamela Leonard of Mahwah, and Alan Moorachanian of Paramus, and three grandchildren. Bruce Schroeder of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of New Milford, Hawthorne and Mahwah, died Sept. 17. He was 64. He had served in the New Jersey National Guard. He was the owner of Oak Tree Numismatic, Inc., and Charter Oak, both in Hawthorne. He had been a juvenile drug counselor for Touchstone Hall, Rockleigh for four years. He was a member of the Hawthorne Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his wife Cheryl Schroeder (nee Michel), his daughter Daryl Lubin of Summit, three grandchildren, and his sister Lynn Jones of Loveland, Colorado. He was predeceased by his son Scott Schroeder. Arrangements were made by Browning Forshay Funeral Home in Hawthorne.
