All proceeds will benefit services, equipment, and programs at the center. Learn to protecting trees and shrubs Bob Malgieri of Borst Landscape and Design will present “Protecting Your Trees and Shrubs from Hungry Deer” on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. Malgieri will discuss how homeowners can keep their plant life safe from hungry deer. He will share anecdotes, tips, and resources for homeowners seeking to preserve their trees and shrubs without deleterious effects. Learn safe, natural measures that can be taken to repel deer and other animals, including home remedies and scare tactics that will deter animals without causing harm. Malgieri is tree division manager at Borst Landscape and Design. He has been in the landscaping business for 28 years and joined Borst Landscape and Design in Allendale in 2007. This program is free. Library hosts movies The Mahwah Public Library will continue showing movies on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. on the 10’ by 18’ screen in the Winter Room. The library now has a high resolution digital projector and sound system. The last movie for the month of September will be “A Summer Place” on Sept. 24. In celebration of Halloween, the October film series will feature movies about vampires. The schedule follows: “Dracula,” Oct. 1; “Nosferatu,” Oct. 8; “Van Helsing,” Oct. 15; “Love at First Bite,” Oct. 22; and “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” Oct. 29. These films are free. Learn to make relationships work Swami Parthasarathy will on speak about Making Relationships Work at the Hindu Samaj Mandir, 247 West Ramapo Avenue, Mahwah, on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10:15 a.m. to noon. In this unique discourse, Swami Parthasarathy will speak on how the ancient wisdom of Vedanta helps in making everyday relationships work. It will open a whole new perspective: what relationships are all about and what is needed to do to make them lasting and fulfilling. Swami Parthasarathy has been featured in TIME, Businessweek and The New Yorker as a pioneer in ancient wisdom in modern living, and is widely regarded at the world’s greatest living exponent of Vedanta, the ancient philosophy of India. The Mommy & Me program is open to children ages 16 months to two-and-a-half years, and pro- vides opportunities for cooperative play and building gross motor skills. Also new is an after school kindergarten enrichment program, and dance and yoga classes. Holy Cross Nursery School is an established Christian nursery school and is fully licensed by the State of New Jersey. All teachers hold teaching degrees and are certified in CPR and first aid. Holy Cross offers early childhood education for children ages 16 months to six years. The classrooms are spacious and bright and there is a well-equipped outdoor playground. The curriculum is both developmental and academically enriched. Programs include Handwriting without Tears, science, and early childhood computer skills. Women’s volleyball begins Adult volleyball for Mahwah women is offered on Wednesdays from 7 to p.m. at Joyce Kilmer School on Ridge Road. Men’s basketball offered Mahwah Recreation is offering another season of adult men’s basketball every Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Ramapo Ridge Middle School on Ridge Road beginning Oct. 6.
