Emmanuel asks...
Can You Help?
The amount of the card could be anywhere from $40 to $60 for the basics, or higher if you add in any extra things. If you prefer, you can put together a basket, bag, or box of non-perishable foods a family can use to create a holiday meal. Suggested items include stuffing, turkey gravy or gravy master, canned yams, a disposable turkey pan, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, pie filling, pie crust, loose items (fresh yams, potatoes, and onions), coffee and tea, cake mix and icing, pancake mix and syrup (for breakfast, of course!) and a chain grocery store gift certificate to cover the cost of a turkey and other fresh items. You can augment the dinner with a frozen turkey. Call us, and we’ll give you a family. All you need to do is assemble the foods and drop them off here at the Midland Park office. We will make the deliveries in time for the holiday. December holiday gift givers are now needed: If you or your group would like to participate in the holiday gift purchase for one of our kids this December, please give us a call. We currently need volunteers in our office during the following times: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 1 to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 2:30 to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call us at (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited. Hours are Monday, 10 to 1; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10 to 5; and Thursday, 10 to 2. The Northern Regional Center is located at 174 Paterson Avenue, Midland Park, NJ 07432. Visit us on the web at www.emmanuelcancer.org. As always, thank you for helping the children and their families!
Our hat’s off to the Church of the Nativity for the semi-annual food collection for our food pantry. These great folks always come through! Important announcement: Please help Emmanuel Cancer Foundation with a click of a mouse: http://www.justmeans.com/ contestidea?ideaid=MTQ5. As many of you know, the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation is fighting hard to keep our program intact in the midst of a suffering economy. The good news is that we’ve been nominated to receive a grant via Liquidnet’s $150,000 Local Impact Challenge, and we have a very, very good chance. 4-29-09 karen/janine Please copy and paste the link above into your web browser, and vote for the EmmanEmmanuelHelp3x.75(4-29-09) uel Cancer Foundation. Please pass this 3 x .75 information onto everyone you know who might be willing to help us. All it takes is a few clicks. Thank you! We have a family who lives in Chester and we need a driver to deliver food to them once a month. The holidays are coming: The children of Emmanuel Cancer Foundation have given us their wish list for a holiday gift. If you would like to adopt a child for the December holidays, call (201) 612-8118. Please consider donating a Thanksgiving dinner. We would appreciate donations of the non-perishable fixin’s for a Thanksgiving dinner for one of our families. You can also save time and purchase a gift card to any chain grocery store and donate this to one of our families. Call now for more information. Our families also need December holiday dinners. If you are in a hurry, simply buy a gift card at your local chain grocery store. Figure out what it would cost to buy the ingredients for a holiday meal, including the turkey or ham, for a family of six.
Home for the Holidays will return to Main Street
The Ramsey Volunteer Fire Department’s Fifth Annual Home for the Holidays, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5 will begin at 6 p.m. Main Street will be closed to vehicular traffic and designated as a walking mall, with shops open to visitors, music, entertainment, and visits with Santa. The evening’s events will include “The Parade of Lights,” which will step off from Dater School at 7:15 p.m. and proceed down Main Street, led by the Big Blue Marching Band from Ramsey High School. Following will be the exciting Bergen Police Pipe and Drum Band, playing its distinctive bagpipe music; the traditional big brass sound of U.S. Army Reserve Band from Fort Totten, New York; and, leading Santa in the final leg of the parade, The Salvation Army Band from Montclair. The parade will also feature approximately two dozen floats, civic groups, dancers, and antique vehicles. Santa will greet the crowds along Main Street from the department’s own antique fire engine. He will also be available to meet with local children at Terrie O’Connor Real Estate Agency before and after the parade. Along the parade route will be choral groups from the Look Sharp Dance Studio and Smith Middle School. For the first time, the festivities will include a rock band, which will be performing at the center island stage. Temple Hill will perform before and after the parade and will include music for all ages. The new stage will be easy to find, since a tower truck will be displaying a large American flag above it, and floodlights will be brightening the area. The parade will end at Ramsey Fire Headquarters on Island Avenue, where more entertainment will be presented. The dance group from Jersey Dance Stop Studio will perform its “Rockette” dance routine, followed by the Ramsey High School Jazz Band. Visit the holiday website at ramseyfd. com (under events) or rfdhomefortheholidays.com. Prospective participants may fill out applications online.
Darlington Schoolhouse
(continued from page 7) during the Thursday evenings that meetings would be held at the schoolhouse -- about 10 to 12 times a year. When the council objected to the proposed path through the woods, the trail conference looked for alternate solutions such as using the reservation for the overflow parking, the church parking lot across Ramapo Valley Road, the Ramapo College parking area, or using van or bus pooling. But Norin advised that the reservation closes at dusk and has no lighting, the church is unable to accommodate the trail conference’s needs, the college parking is too far away from the schoolhouse, and the van or bus pooling would take too much time and therefore would not resolve the problem. “We just don’t think any of the alternate solutions are practical or feasible,” Norin said. “We think parking at the Continental Soldiers Park is the only answer.”
