Nine talented young musicians and singers will perform in a special concert on Dec. 4. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Don Bosco Prep Chapel, on Franklin Turnpike, Ramsey. “These local young performers, many who have performed in New York’s finest venues, will dazzle you with renditions of Broadway and classical pieces,” said Toni Bilotti Cecere, Don Bosco Prep’s concert and choral director. “It will surely be a wonderful concert that the entire family can enjoy.” Performers will include Franklin Sun, Nicholas Giordano, Kathryn Chamberlain, Kelvin Wang, Danny Smith, Danielle Fried, Parris Cisco, Jeanette Aufiero, and Brian Walters.
Young People’s Concert comes to Don Bosco
Ten-year-old Sun, a classical pianist from Ramsey, won first place at the NJ MEA Competition in Spring 2009. Giordano, 14, from Oakland is a renowned classical guitarist and founder of Strings from the Heart. He will perform “Capriccio Arabe” by Francesco Tarrega and “Etude No. 12” by Fernando Sor. Chamberlain, a 13-year-old violinist from Sparta, is a concertmaster with the Sussex Youth Orchestra. Wang, a resident of Oradell, is a classical pianist. Although he is just 12 years of age, he has already performed at Madison Square Garden and Alice Tully Hall. He will perform “Final” from “Sonata in B Minor, Hob. 32” by Haydn and “La Plus Que Lente” by Debussy. Smith, 16, is a Broadway actor and singer who hails from Waldwick. He appeared as John Darling in the national tour of “Peter Pan.” Smith will sing “A Lot of Livin’ to Do” from “Bye Bye Birdie.” Freid, 15, is a vocalist from Upper Saddle River. She has appeared in “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas” on Broadway and “The Workshop for 13: The Musical.” Singer Cisco, 17, from Park Ridge, has performed on Broadway as Nala in “The Lion King” and as Macduff’s daughter in “Macbeth.” Aufiero, 23, is a classical pianist from Upper Saddle River. She is a Juilliard Pre-college and Manhattan School of Music graduate, who is currently on scholarship at Cleveland Institute of Music, pursuing her master’s degree with Antonio Pompa-Baldi. Aufiero was a finalist in both the Beethoven Second Piano Concerto Competition and the Liszt-Garrison International Piano Competition. She has performed at numerous venues, including Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center. One of her many performances at Hawthorne Gospel Church was broadcast on the WMCA radio station. Aufiero has also had the privilege of being invited to perform with Alexander Slobodyanik and Laryssa Krupa at
Franklin Sun of Ramsey will be among the featured performers at the Young People’s Concert.

the First Night Morristown Festival on New Year’s Eve. Singer/actor Walters, 19, from Paramus, has performed in “They’re Just Like Us,” and is appearing at O’Flaherty’s in New York City. This year’s Chapel Concert series will showcase young performers from elementary school through college level. Don Bosco Prep alumni who have gone on to pursue performing arts will have a concert reunion in January. The Yale Whiffenpoofs will return in February. April brings two virtuoso violinists from Poland, Ania and Piotr Filochowski, who are on the cusp of international stardom. In May, Don Bosco will host the Notre Dame Concert Band together with the Ridgewood Concert band, joined by the New York Philharmonic’s principal trumpeter Philip Smith.
