Inclement weather on Monday, the original filing deadline, prompted the state to extend the deadline to Wednesday. As of Monday, seven candidates had announced their candidacy, including incumbents Nicole Alvarez, Board President John Nunziata, Richard Snyder, and challengers Mitchell Berzin, Donna Jordan, former Ramsey Mayor Richard Muti, and Kenneth Tyburczy. Jason Baumuller Eight file for three seats on Ramsey School Board filed by the updated deadline. The following candidates, listed in alphabetical order, provided biographical profiles: Alvarez has resided in Ramsey since 2003. She and her husband Dean have two children in the public schools. She has been active in the local Parent Teacher Organizations and with the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey. She holds a BA degree from Rutgers University and a JD from New York Law School. She is an attorney with a law firm in Ramsey. She was elected to fill a one-year unexpired term on the school board in April 2008. Muti was born and raised in Ramsey and attended the borough’s public schools. He was a Navy pilot, and received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a law degree from Rutgers Law School. He was a prosecutor, and is now COO for a local company. Nunziata has been a Ramsey resident since 1979. He is a retired executive, who held positions at IBM, ITT, and Verizon. McMahon Four incumbent members of the Mahwah Board of Education and one former member of the school board have filed nominating petitions seeking election in the school board election on April 21. Incumbents Christine P. Davis, John F. Dolan, and Candace Larson are all seeking reelection to the board and will be unopposed in this year’s election. Incumbent Prema C. Moorthy, who was appointed to the board in January to replace former trustee Denise Heitman who resigned the previous November, is seeking election to Heitman’s two year unexpired term. She will be opposed by Peter J. Wendrychowicz who had previously been on the local board of education for 21 years but lost his seat in 2007. Davis currently serves on the Finance, Facilities, Public Relations, and Executive/Planning committees. She is also the liaison to the Thunderbird Scholarship Committee and to the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools. She has served on the board for two terms having been first elected in 2003 and she is now seeking a third term. Dolan currently serves on the school board’s Finance, Facilities, and Executive/Planning committees. He is a long term member of the board, having been appointed in October 1991 and elected in 1992 to serve an unexpired term on the board that lasted until 1994. He was elected again in 2000 and has since served three consecutive terms on the school board and is now seeking to serve the school district in a fifth term. Larson has lived in Mahwah since 1994 and has served on the school board since 1997 and she has three sons, two of whom attend Mahwah High School. She is a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Wyckoff. She has a BA in philosophy and graduated magna cum laude from Saint Bonaventure University in 1980, and Pace University School of Law in 1985. She was admitted to New Jersey Bar in 1985. Moorthy is seeking to serve out Heitman’s unexpired term, which will extend to 2011. She has not yet been assigned to a school board committee. Wendrychowicz is also seeking to serve out Heitman’s unexpired term. He is a retired track and field coach at Suffern High School, where he was the library media specialist from 1968 to 2004. Prior to that, he was the elementary school librarian for the Mahwah schools. He is a graduate of King’s College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, where he received a bachelor’s degree in English with a history minor. He also graduated from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York with honors and a master’s degree in library and information science.
