Louise Hyams, a dignitary from London, England, visited Ramsey last week to deliver a special invitation to the high school marching band to perform in one of the world’s most prestigious street spectaculars: the New Year’s Day Parade. The Lord Mayor of Westminster, the city that hosts the New Year’s Day celebration, is a patron of the parade and made a special request to visit the talented youngsters at Ramsey High School. A U.S.-based selection panel recommended that the group be granted the special honour of participating in the traditional turn of year celebration on Jan. 1 in the historic heart of London. It will be Ramsey’s second appearance. The highly prestigious traditional turn of year celebration in the UK capital is established as the biggest event of its kind anywhere in the world. The parade, which is in its 24th year, regularly attracts more than 500,000 spectators on to the streets, and the event is broadcast live around the world.
