Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • June 10, 2009 Ramsey Havens to perform at upcoming Woodstock Weekend On July 3 and 4, the Ramsey Fine Arts Council will present two evenings of music in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the legendary concert of Woodstock. The highlight of this two-day event will be a July 4 performance by Richie Havens. On July 3, over 15 local bands and performers will play songs in tribute to legendary Woodstock performers such as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Santana, Janis Joplin, The Who, and Jimi Hendrix. Performers include The School of Rock, Wigs and Car Parts, Blindfolded Vicars, and Zeke Cary Band. The show will begin at 5 p.m. with Richard Reiter facilitating a Drum Circle. Reiter will bring 60 drums and percussion instruments to share. Everyone in the community is welcome to participate. Bring a blanket and picnic in the park. The Jazz Band will have water for sale; proceeds support the Ramsey High School Band’s trip to London to play in the New Year’s Parade. On July 4, the day-long event will feature arts and crafts vendors. The vendor village will include artists who work with various media to produce pottery, photography, jewelry, folk instruments, clothing, handbags, and more. The village will be open at 5 p.m. At that hour, the Knights of Columbus will be serving up hotdogs, burgers, and pulled pork sandwiches, and handling the GUITAR-B-Q. This year, let the Knights GUITAR-B-Q for you. Entertainment will be provided by THE BAND Band, a tribute to one of the most influential groups in all of rock and roll. At night, event organizers will present the man who was the first performer at the original festival in 1969: Richie Havens. Havens is gifted with one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. His fiery, soulful singing style has remained unique and ageless since he first emerged from the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960s. Selections from the rock opera “Tommy” and from Santana will be played by The Ramsey Wind Symphony. Festivities will conclude with an amazing fireworks show in honor of the Fourth of July. In the event of rain, Havens will perform at the Ramsey High School auditorium; THE BAND Band, the fireworks, and the rest of the festivities will be held on Sunday, July 5 at Finch Park. These free events are sponsored by the Ramsey Fine Arts Council and The Borough of Ramsey. Ramsey Fine Arts Council meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:30 at the Ramsey Municipal Building. All are welcome to attend.
