June 10, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 19 Mahwah Minutes Summer Music Festival set As part of the eleventh season of the Summer Music Festival, violinist Akiko Kobayashi will perform music by composers including Bach, Ysaye, Bartok, Ravel, and Debussy at the Mahwah Public Library on Tuesday June 16, at 7 p.m. New York-born violinist Kobayashi is an enthusiastic solo and chamber music player and conveys her love for music with her technical facility and warmth of sound. Kobayashi has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Yonkers Philharmonic Orchestra and Tokyo Suginami Kokaido Chamber Orchestra, and recently received a Distinguished Musician Diploma from the IBLA Grand Prize Competition. She has participated in the Stradivarius Society’s master class hosted by Bein & Fushi. She enjoys exploring challenges beyond the range of music, as when she graduated with a double degree in biology and music from Yale University. She has studied with noted musicians such as Sidney Harth, Victor Aitay, Zvi Zeitlin and Felix Galimir. Kobayashi is a master of music candidate at the Manhattan School of Music, where she is studying with Isaac Malkin. This concert is free. No tickets are necessary. Taste of the Region returns The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce will hold the third Taste of the Region event June 10 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Sheraton Mahwah Hotel, 1 International Boulevard in Mahwah. The event will feature samplings of foods from many local restaurants and caterers, a wine tasting, and live music. Participating vendors can be found on the MRCC website and will be listed also in the Taste of the Region Buyers’ Guide. Job search seminar offered The Mahwah Public Library will present “Job Search in the Age of the Internet: The 60 Second Elevator Speech” with Barbara Brandes, career counselor and executive coach, on June 15 at 7 p.m. Unemployment is reaching a rate not seen for over two decades. Over the past 20 years, some elements of the job search process have changed. It is time to update job search skills. This 60-minute workshop will show how to prepare for that all-important “60 Second Elevator Speech.” Brandes specializes in career and executive coaching, and is dedicated to helping business professionals define their goals, develop career strategies, and take action for continued success. She currently is a School of Business career advisor at Monroe College, has been a career advisor at Yeshiva University, and Director of Career Counseling at Sarah Lawrence.
