Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • June 3, 2009 The eleventh season of the Mahwah Public Library’s Summer Music Festival will begin Wednesday, June 10 with violinist Alexis Lerner. Lerner will perform music by composers including Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and Wieniawski at the library 7 p.m. Lerner began studying violin at four. She is a student of Ella Rutkovsky’s at the Manhattan School of Music, where she won the Bach Double Violin Concerto Competition and received the Parent Achievement Award. She plays the acoustic and the electric violin. Lerner just performed her solo debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on March 1. She was selected as a winner of the 2008 American Fine Arts Festival to perform at the Goethe-Institut in New York City and in the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. She is one of the youngest members ever chosen to perform on the main stage of Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony Orchestra. She has been selected as Concertmistress for the Concert Orches- Summer Music Festival begins with violin concert tra at the Manhattan School of Music and the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan. She has often appeared in area venues recently performing at the Walter Engel Young Performers Festival in Ridgewood and performs solo recitals at The Atrium at the Allendale Community for Senior Living. Aside from the violin, Lerner plays piano and studies musical composition.
