Ramsey July 22, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 5 Planners set to vote on Interstate updates This week, the Ramsey Planning Board is scheduled to vote on the Gabrellian Associates plan to expand the ShopRite at Interstate Shopping Center. The session was set for July 21. Recently updated plans for the shopping center include a 10,000 square foot addition to the south side of the ShopRite building, and improvements to the traffic flow and patterns in the busy parking lot, which serves the grocery store and the mall. The applicant reportedly worked with the planning board’s traffic expert to devise a plan that would improve flow for pedestrians and motorists at the ingress and egress areas and within the parking lot. An earlier proposal from Gabrellian Associates had also included two stand-alone restaurants, one which would have been 4,000 square feet and another totaling 7,000 square feet, and a four-deck parking garage. Those elements have since been removed from the application. Borough residents who live near the shopping center had expressed their concerns regarding increased traffic. This concern was echoed by members of the planning board. “I think the developer has been very responsive to the borough’s and the residents’ concerns,” Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta commented last week. Gabrellian Associates owns the retail center, which is comprised of just under 29 acres. Access is offered from Franklin Turnpike and from Route 17 South. The applicant is currently being represented by attorney Joseph Basralian. Summer update on senior activities The senior center will continue to host activities during the summer, but several changes were recently announced. There will be no bingo in July; this activity will resume in August on Mondays at noon. Yoga has been discontinued for July and August. Notice will be given for a new yoga session in September. Joe Palmer invites anyone interested in learning woodcarving to come on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Palmer enjoys teaching people his fine art. The bocce boys play every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10 a.m. at the Ramsey Pool. More men are wanted. There are two courts available. The women’s bocce group meets at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
