McMahon The Pilot Corporation recently presented a new plan to the Mahwah Zoning Board of Adjustment which revises the truck fueling portion of its 4.5-acre site on Route 17 South to provide better on-site circulation and maneuverability for trucks as they line up to refuel. Six new diesel fueling positions are planned for the south side of the site. If the application is approved by the zoning board, Pilot plans to demolish all structures on the site, eliminate the existing truck driver amenities such as showers and a place to sleep, reduce the number of truck parking spaces, close the Ridge Road access to the site, and redevelop it into a fuel service station with a convenience store. Joseph Staiger, Pilot’s traffic engineer, explained the new plan, saying the location of the truck parking and the aisle to the pumps have been switched so the travel aisle is now on the southern border of the site. That change provides a wider turning radius for trucks as they queue up to make a U-turn to reach the fuel pumps.
