Ramsey February 25, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 7 Over 250 enthusiastic fifth grade DARE families and friends recently descended upon Campgaw for the annual Ramsey DARE skiing and tubing trip. Eighty percent of this year’s fifth grade DARE class attended along with many brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. The team was joined by a contingent of Ramsey DARE graduates. The elite group of teen role models served as DARE sponsors winter outing at Campgaw safety monitors and mentors for the younger students. The event was organized and run run by key members of Team DARE, who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and success of the fun night out. Many fifth grade parent volunteers were responsible for organizing the event. The volunteers were led by Kathy Capela, Mae Fine, and Beth Stitz. Also present was Susan Major, from the Ramsey Municipal Drug Alliance, Angie Kelly from the Smith School PTO, fifth grade teacher Adam Ramsden, and long-time DARE volunteers Ashley Gardenier and Melissa Lucas. The teen volunteers were led by Ramsey High School students Steven Kopack, Zach Mansley, and basketball legend Kenny Major. Mentors included Smith School students Sabrina Bush, Colin Bussiere, Michael McGonigle, and Nick Rohonyi. The team maintained a visible presence across the mountain, and kept coordinators informed of all activities. Coordinators and safety team members stayed in contact by using high-powered two-way radios that had been donated by the Junior Woman’s Club of Ramsey. DARE students, families, and team members are eagerly anticipating the next night out, DARE Skate Night.
