The Tuminelli Memorial Wrestling Tournament was recently held in Emerson. Wrestlers from over 10 towns competed in the tournament, including 21 experienced Mahwah wrestlers who took home a record number of first place medals. Of the 21 Mahwah wrestlers who attended the event, there were 14 winners. First place winners included Jelani Garland, intermediate, 77 pounds; Nick Codina, intermediate, 150 pounds; Doug Ervin, novice, 100 pounds; Christian Jenco, junior, 140 pounds; Zachary Spira, junior, 105 pounds; and Robert Askew, junior, 163 pounds. The second place winners were Nikko Perini, bantam, 60 pounds; Jacob Davis, novice, 100 pounds; and Dylan Jacob, junior, 100 pounds. Spencer Ross, junior, 133 pounds; and Chase Meola, junior, 80 pounds were the team’s third place winners. Fourth place winners included Ronnie Riccie, novice, 73 pounds; and Justin Walker, junior, 90 pounds. The Mahwah Thunderbirds Novice Wrestles recently competed in the Jefferson Novice Tournament. Five Mahwah wrestlers had three matches each with Travis Arata, Sam Spira, Eric Swedelson and Connor Kolich taking first place and Chase Meola taking second.
