Pastor to retire
Family, friends, and clergy attended Rev. Dr. Michael Carrier’s retirement dinner at the Ramsey Country Club, recently. Pastor Carrier of the First Presbyterian Church of Ramsey and his wife Linda will be moving to New Hampshire. Speakers throughout the evening spoke of the reverend’s involvement in community organizations and the Presbytery of the Palisades. Dec. 20 will be his last Sunday with the church. Following worship service, a reception will be held in Fellowship Hall with cake and coffee in the Carriers’ honor.
Giving thanks together
The Ramapo Interfaith Clergy Association held its annual Community Thanksgiving Celebration at the First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey this year. Participating in the service were clergy from Ramsey and Mahwah along with 60 choir members singing under the direction of Dr. Deborah King, music director at the First Presbyterian Church. Obituaries
(continued from previous page) Dolores Carmen Torralbas of King George County, Virginia, formerly of Waldwick, died Nov. 20. She was 79. She had been a teacher and principal at Waldwick High School. She is survived by her daughters Ann T. Cocke of King George County, Virginia and Annette Toralbas of Vienna, Virginia, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Ruben R. Torralbas. A memorial service will be held on Dec. 21 at 10 a.m. at Saint Luke’s Catholic Church in Ho-HoKus. early years growing up in Paterson, he sold fruits and vegetables off the back of a horse drawn wagon. Later he operated a thriving butcher shop and grocery store on Park Avenue in Paterson. He and his two sons operated Van Dyk Manor in Ridgewood for the past 56 years. He was a member of the Hawthorne Gospel Church where he had served as chairman of the church board. He is survived by his sons Marvin of Franklin Lakes and William of West Hebron, New York, seven grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Amoniza “Teenie” Van Dyk and his second wife Evelyn Deinum Van Dyk. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff.
