Mahwah April 15, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 9 Violinist to perform concert at public library The Mahwah Public Library will present a recital by violinist Anat Malkin-Almani with Eduard Laurel on the piano on Sunday April 19 at 2 p.m. The recital will be a program of works by classical composers Locatelli, Ysaye, and Grieg. Almani began her violin studies at the age of five with her father, Professor Isaac Malkin. By the age of six, she was already performing as soloist with symphony orchestras. At 10, she embarked on her first international tour, comprised of recitals and performances with orchestras, throughout Norway, Mexico, and the United States. She made her Carnegie Hall debut at 16 under the baton of Alexander Schneider. Additional performances, both with orchestra and in recital, have taken her throughout five continents. An active chamber musician, she performs regularly with her sister, violinist Bracha Malkin, as part of The Malkin Duo. Almani collaborates annually with distinguished artists Emanuel Borok, David Geber, Mikhail Kopelman, and Julia Lichten at the Academy of Music Festival in Nyack, New York, where she serves on the artist faculty. Almani is a member of the violin and viola faculties at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-college Division. Her training includes work with Josef Gingold; Isaac Malkin at the Manhattan School of Music; Cho-Liang Lin at Juilliard, where Almani received a Bachelor of Music degree; and Boris Belkin at the Maastricht Conservatorium in Holland, where she received a Master of Music degree, cum laude. In 1996, while still a student at Juilliard, Almani was in a car accident that severely damaged her left hand and right shoulder. Unable to play for more than eight years, she underwent 12 operations to repair severed nerves, muscles, tendons and ligaments in her hand and shoulder and to remove embedded shards of glass and gravel. Despite predictions that she would never play again, and years of rehabilitation, she returned to the stage. This program is free. No tickets are necessary. Seats are on a “first come” basis.
