Jimmy & The Parrots to perform Jimmy & the Parrots, one of the most requested Jimmy Buffett cover bands in the country, will perform at the Wyckoff Family YMCA at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff on Friday, June 26 at 7:30 p.m. This group performs all the great Buffett songs and new and classic rock n’ roll and outstanding original songs. Cover songs include favorites by the Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte, and Bob Marley, among many others. This outdoor concert will be held at the new pavilion at Spring Lake. Quilters Guild hosts speaker The Brownstone Quilters Guild, Inc. will hold its next meeting at noon and 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 17, at the Central Unitarian Church, 156 Forest Avenue in Paramus. Bonnie Hunter, the featured speaker at both sessions, will present: “Scrap User’s System.” She is also a professional longarm quilter. Anyone interested in attending is welcome. Anglers offer reel fun Captain John Kolias will present Reel Fun Fishing at the Saltwater Anglers of Bergen County’s April 21 meeting. Kolias, whose specialty is fishing for fluke, will give a presentation on tactics for catching the big ones in Rartian Bay, Ambrose Channel, and other local spots. The public is invited. Seniors celebrate Cinco de Mayo The Northwest Bergen Regional Senior Center will celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Tuesday, May 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. All area seniors age 60 and over are welcome. Musical entertainment will be provided by Señor Mick Kelly. The menu will include guacamole, salsa, and tortilla chips; Puebla fruit punch; pineapple cup; chicken fajita with rice, peppers, onions, mushrooms, and flour tortilla; and Mayan mystery dessert. Celiac Support Group to meet The Northern New Jersey Celiac Support Group will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at the Dorothy B. Kraft Center, at 15 Essex Road in Paramus. Liz Silverman, founder of Still Riding Pizza, will offer an inside look at her gluten free pizza business. Samples of gluten free foods will be available for tasting. To Spring beauties at NJBG The New Jersey State Botanical Garden will hold its annual Plant Sale May 2 and 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Choose from a generous array of lush perennials, colorful annuals, robust vines, tasty vegetables and herbs, and dwarf and full-size trees and shrubs. Admission is free. The sale is held in and around the historic Carriage House Visitor Center on the grounds of the New Jersey State Botanical Garden in Ringwood State Park. On May 1, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., NJBG members will be treated to an exclusive wine-and-cheese reception at the preview party, during which many of the choicest plants are traditionally sold. Non-member visitors to the Friday night preview may participate by becoming members at the gate. Master Gardeners and volunteers from the NJBG/Skylands Association — a member-supported non-profit organization that works with the State to preserve and protect the Garden and its historic structures — will be on hand to answer questions and help shoppers make selections. Twins’ Mothers Club to host benefit The Twins’ Mothers Club of Bergen County is hosting its 52nd Annual Charity Dinner and Fundraiser to be held at the Landmark on May 6, to benefit Gilda’s Club of Northern New Jersey. Gilda’s Club provides free cancer support for the whole family and creates a cancer support community that gives the opportunity for families to join with others and share experiences and makes a big difference to families learning to live with cancer. Mothers of multiples have rallied to seek donations and make this year’s event the best yet. Donations of any sort, including products, trips, tickets to sporting events or shows, merchandise, services, gift certificates, or monetary donations, will be gratefully accepted.
